This Opportunity
WSP is currently initiating a search for a Lead Systems Engineer to join our growing Industrial Center of Excellence (ICoE) within the Property & Buildings business line.
Our Industrial CoE supports some of the world's most innovative industrial clients, delivering integrated engineering and automation solutions for advanced manufacturing facilities, food and beverage production plants, life sciences facilities, logistics centers, battery manufacturing plants, and other industrial environments.
This position offers the opportunity to lead automation and controls engineering efforts for complex industrial projects while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams throughout planning, design, construction, commissioning, startup, and operational support. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership, support project delivery, and develop innovative automation solutions that improve safety, productivity, quality, and operational performance.
Your Impact
- Lead automation and controls system design projects for industrial and manufacturing facilities.
- Develop PLC programs, HMI programs, SCADA solutions, and industrial network architectures for process and packaging systems.
- Develop control narratives, sequence of operations documents, functional specifications, and automation testing procedures.
- Design and review electrical control panels, I/O systems, motor control systems, and general instrumentation layouts.
- Support industrial communications infrastructure and interface with managed industrial network systems.
- Coordinate and participate in factory acceptance testing (FAT), site acceptance testing (SAT), startup, and commissioning activities.
- Collaborate with mechanical, process, electrical, and operations teams to deliver integrated manufacturing solutions.
- Travel to client facilities to support commissioning, troubleshooting, training, and startup activities.
- Provide technical leadership during equipment installations and production line upgrades.
- Troubleshoot controls, instrumentation, and automation systems during commissioning and operational phases.
- Prepare and review AutoCAD drawings, Record documentation, and technical reports.
- Interface directly with clients, contractors, vendors, and project stakeholders to support successful project delivery.
- Mentor junior engineers, programmers, and designers.
- Support proposal development, business development efforts, and client relationship management activities.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Automation Engineering, or related discipline.
- 7-10 years of experience in industrial automation, controls engineering, or related manufacturing environments.
- Demonstrated experience designing, programming, implementing, and commissioning industrial control systems.
- Experience supporting food & beverage, manufacturing, packaging, processing, logistics, or industrial production facilities.
- Knowledge of electrical control panels, I/O systems, motor control equipment, and VFDs.
- Ability to lead multidisciplinary project teams and coordinate field activities.
- Strong communication, client-facing, and technical leadership skills.
- Ability to travel to client facilities for commissioning and project support.
