Job Type: Contract-to-Hire

Pay: $30.00/hour, depending on experience

Position Overview

Qualdoc is hiring a hands-on Fabrication Lead to help direct daily work in a structural steel and welding shop. This position works closely with fitters, welders, and other fabrication personnel to keep projects moving safely, efficiently, and according to quality requirements.

The right candidate will have solid structural steel fabrication experience, strong knowledge of welding and fit-up, and previous experience leading a production team.

What You'll Do

  • Help organize daily shop activities and keep work aligned with production schedules.
  • Direct fitters, welders, and fabrication employees throughout the shift.
  • Distribute assignments and adjust workloads based on production needs.
  • Provide hands-on support with fit-up, welding, layout, and blueprint interpretation.
  • Resolve fabrication problems and production issues as they occur.
  • Track workflow and communicate delays, schedule changes, or other concerns to shop leadership.
  • Promote safe work practices, quality expectations, and shop procedures.
  • Work with maintenance personnel to address equipment issues and minimize downtime.
  • Help maintain a safe, clean, and organized shop.
  • Assist with employee training, onboarding, and development.
  • Work with Quality Control to verify fabrication meets required standards.
  • Assist with measurements, inspections, and production documentation.
  • Take on other shop leadership responsibilities as needed.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of experience leading or supervising structural steel fabrication teams.
  • Strong hands-on knowledge of welding, fit-up, layout, and structural steel fabrication.
  • Experience using CNC fabrication equipment and shop machinery.
  • Ability to read and understand fabrication drawings and blueprints.
  • Knowledge of workplace safety, quality requirements, and production processes.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work overtime, weekends, and flexible schedules when production requires it.

Preferred: Experience with Tekla EPM/GO.
