Position Summary

Under the direction of a University Police Shift Sergeant, assists with the operation of the Department of Public Safety Telecommunications Center in NJIT Police Headquarters. Receives and coordinates all telephone communications including emergency phone lines, radio requests from Police, Fire, EMS, Parking Services, Security Officers, bike patrol, Facilities Services and Housing personnel when necessary. Determines the nature and location of emergencies and determines priorities. Monitors alarm systems and answers non-emergency calls for assistance. Receives requests for information regarding vehicle registration, driving records and warrants, and provides pertinent data.

Essential Functions

  • Acknowledge and transmit radio calls for emergency and non-emergency service.
  • Contact and receive phone calls from various public and private services and University departments.
  • Receive and transmit calls on both Physical plant and HVAC radio Monitor NJIT police, SPEN, and Newark radio communications.
  • Dispatch Police Officers and Public Safety Officers on assignment in accordance with departmental policy and procedure.
  • Maintain the security of equipment, keys, and reports on his/her duty shift.
  • Maintain and operate the CAD system Monitor and manipulate CCTV systems.
  • Monitor AMAG alarm system, consisting of door alarms, fire alarms, etc.
  • Maintain Verizon Fleet System.
  • Provide on-scene officers with information obtained from NCIC, NJIS and AOCTELE.
  • Under the direction of the Shift Sergeant or designated supervisor, during an assigned tour of duty, provides assistance and protection to persons and property in and about NJIT owned and leased buildings, office grounds and parking areas.
  • Maintains orderly conditions and takes measures required to assure observance of the law.
  • Safety and Security Coordination - The incumbent is responsible for ensuring the safety and security to persons and property in and about NJIT premises, which includes, by way of illustration only.

Pre-Requisite Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED, Less than 1 year experience.

At the university's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be exempted where the candidate can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the university an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.

Compensation

$42,070.00 - $57,382.56

NJIT considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, or other items.
