Senior Production Geologist

Job Purpose/Key Objectives
- The Production Geologist will be crucial in optimizing the development and production of geological expertise to support production activities and enhance recovery .
- The job holder will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to integrate geological data and provide solutions that improve field performance and deliver value to the organization.
- The job holder will also have strong technical foundation in geology to optimize reservoir performance and production, with ability to collaborate and be creative.
Principal Accountabilities
- Contribute to the design and implementation of field development plans, integrating geological data to recommend drilling locations and strategies to maximize production and reservoir performance.
- Perform reservoir characterization studies to analyze geological and well data, including log and seismic data to create detailed geological models that enhance understanding of reservoir architecture and behavior.
- Utilize advanced geological and geophysical software to integrate data from various sources (seismic, well logs, production history) and develop effective insights for reservoir management.
- Provide geological support during drilling operations, including well logging, wellbore monitoring, and geological supervision to ensure the safe and accurate drilling of the well targets.
- Work closely with reservoir engineers, production engineers, geophysicists, and other technical teams to develop and implement integrated solutions for reservoir optimization and production enhancement.
- Prepare geological reports, presentations, and technical documentation to communicate findings, recommendations, and strategies to senior management and stakeholders.
- Stay up to date with industry technologies and best practices in geological analysis and reservoir management.
- Identify geological issues impacting production, such as reservoir compartmentalization and fluid migration and provide practical, creative solutions to overcome challenges.
- Preparation of technical reports, presentations, and performance summaries for senior management and stakeholders.
- Foster collaboration between the Subsurface team and other departments (e.g., Facilities, Well Engineering, operations) to ensure that all aspects of reservoir development and optimization are implemented.
- Provide mentorship and technical guidance to trainee geologists, technical and subsurface teams.
- Lead production geology initiatives, ensuring adherence to best practices and high-quality standards.
- Collaborate with reservoir engineers, petrophysicists, production technologists, and other technical teams to ensure that geological aspects of projects are approximately funded and resourced.
- Oversee vendor relationships related to geological services (e.g., seismic contractors, software and data providers) to ensure contracts are cost-effective and in line with the project budget.
- Recommend areas for cost savings in geological activities or field development, such as more efficient data acquisition techniques or cost-effective software tools.
- Work with management to allocate budget for data acquisition (e.g., seismic acquisition and processing services) and ensure that expenditures align with the scope of the project and strategic objectives.
- Perform all other duties that are necessary and reasonably attached to this Production Geologist position and the fulfillment of its responsibilities.
- Any other responsibilities as assigned by the Subsurface Maturation Studies Manager.
Job Requirements
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Earth Sciences, or a related field.
- Postgraduate degree in any preferred discipline is preferred.
- Evidence of training history and certification of related courses
Experience
- A minimum of 8 - 15 years of experience in production geology, with at least 6 years in a production geology role in a major producing indigenous or international oil and gas company.
- Demonstrated experience in developing effective sector and static models that drive results.
- Extensive experience working in a variety of reservoir environments (e.g., conventional, unconventional, offshore, mature field.
- Experience in conducting reserve estimation and managing reservoir assets to ensure optimal economic returns.
- Experience with reservoir heterogeneity and compartmentalization, understanding how geological features affect fluid flow and recovery efficiency.
- Experienced in supporting drilling operations, offering geological expertise on-site and ensuring accurate data acquisition during drilling and production.
Knowledge, Skills & Competencies
- A creative mindset to approach geological challenges with innovative techniques, unconventional thinking, and novel solutions
- A strong understanding of seismic acquisition and processing, rock physics, seismic inversion, and Amplitude Versus Offset (AVO) is essential.
- Comprehensive geological knowledge covering a wide range of areas, such as stratigraphy, sedimentology, geophysics, and structural geology.
- Innovative problem-solving approach when facing geological challenges—always looking for creative ways to tackle tough problems with fresh, out-of-the-box solutions
- Proficient in geological and geophysical software tools like Petrel, Geoteric, Rockdoc and similar platforms, utilizing them for effective data integration, modeling, and visualization.
- Skilled in managing large datasets, with hands-on experience in data systems and techniques that ensure smooth handling of complex information.
- Proven field experience in development planning, contributing to well placement strategies and spotting opportunities to enhance production and recovery.
- In-depth knowledge of production geology, including wellbore geology and reservoir management, with a strong grasp of key concepts and techniques.
- Understanding of reservoir economics, including cost-benefit analysis, net present value (NPV), internal rate of return (IRR), and other financial metrics.
