Senior Database Engineer – PostgreSQL / Supabase

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Database Engineer – PostgreSQL / Supabase based in Mexico.

This is a highly technical opportunity for a senior database engineer working with a PostgreSQL environment at significant <scale.You> will take ownership of a database containing approximately 100 million records and help ensure it remains fast, reliable, secure, and scalable.The role combines hands-on performance optimization with database architecture and long-term technical <evolution.You> will investigate bottlenecks across queries, indexes, storage, and data operations while designing solutions for continued <growth.You> will also contribute to APIs, integrations, and automations connected to the database and the broader product ecosystem.The environment is ideal for someone who enjoys deep technical problem-solving and turning complex database challenges into practical, scalable solutions.This is a fully remote, full-time position based in Mexico City, with significant ownership over a critical part of the technology platform.

Accountabilities

• Take ownership of the administration, optimization, and continuous evolution of a large-scale PostgreSQL/Supabase database containing approximately 100 million records.
• Analyze and optimize SQL queries, indexes, storage structures, and database performance to improve responsiveness, efficiency, and scalability.
• Manage high volumes of data operations, including inserts, updates, and queries, while maintaining reliable performance as usage grows.
• Investigate database bottlenecks and performance issues, identify root causes, and implement effective technical solutions.
• Design and evolve database architecture to support increasing data volumes, application growth, and future scalability requirements.
• Maintain strong standards for data integrity, availability, stability, security, and overall database reliability.
• Develop and maintain APIs, integrations, and automations that interact with the database and support evolving product requirements.
• Proactively identify technical risks and opportunities for improvement as the product and its data infrastructure continue to evolve.
• Evaluate and adopt appropriate development and AI-assisted engineering tools to improve productivity, implementation quality, and technical problem-solving.

Requirements

• Solid professional experience working with PostgreSQL in production environments, particularly where database scale, performance, and reliability are critical.
• Strong knowledge of advanced SQL, query optimization, indexing strategies, database performance analysis, storage, and relational database architecture.
• Demonstrated experience working with large datasets and high-volume database operations, with a proven ability to identify and resolve performance bottlenecks.
• Experience designing or evolving database architectures to support scalability, availability, data integrity, and long-term growth.
• Professional experience with Supabase is highly valued.
• Experience developing or maintaining APIs, integrations, and automations connected to databases is desirable.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a hands-on approach to investigating complex technical issues and implementing practical solutions.
• Ability to work independently, take ownership of critical technical challenges, and make sound architectural decisions in a remote environment.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with technical and cross-functional stakeholders.
• Experience using AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, or similar technologies is highly valued.
• A strong technical curiosity and genuine enthusiasm for making systems faster, more stable, reliable, and scalable.
• Professional experience specifically with PostgreSQL and exposure to significant database volumes will be particularly relevant for this position.
