About The Role
The Data Analytics team within the Information Technology directorate is seeking a Senior Applications Analyst.
Key Responsibilities
- Participates in defining data requirements for development, maintenance, and improvements by responding to questions concerning data design and implementation. Takes ownership of technical problems and see them through to resolution.
- Prepares time and cost estimates and schedules for data development, maintenance, and modification tasks.
- Reviews and analyzes data and existing test methods to determine the feasibility of design change requests, recommendations and refinements.
- Reviews and analyzes data and test results to ensure modifications have been made and tested, including ensuring MSTS computer users’ specifications have been satisfied.
- Analyzes user requirements, devises solutions, and prepares external specification documentation.
- Designs and documents data integration by preparing diagrams, logic charts and internal specification documentation.
- May provide technical assistance to the User Support Training organization.
- May plan and coordinate data-related activities, including:
- Coordinating requests for access to data.
- Developing, implementing, and reviewing data administration standards regarding validation, integrity, storage, and security of data; internal object naming conventions, and data access methods.
- Providing advice and consultation regarding data requirements and/or report design.
- Developing or modifying SQL code.
- Serve as a mentor in data analytics tools and technologies, including but not limited to SQL, Denodo, Power BI, and cloud-based data platforms.
- Developing and reviewing strategic and functional plans for the evolution of data and information architecture, including establishment of a centralized information repository.
- Creating data visualizations and reports.
- Directing data integration strategies.
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams to design and implement data-driven solutions.
- Reviewing and approving changes to the central repository and the DBMS structure.
- Providing assistance with data architecture methods.
- May formulate or define programming scope and objectives.
- May devise or modify procedures to solve complex problems.
- May review specifications and write programs, including coding, testing, debugging and documentation.
- May instruct, direct and review the work of other personnel.
- May prepare detailed plans to perform systems design.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Due to the nature of our work, US Citizenship is required for all positions.
- Bachelor’s degree in a computer related field or equivalent computer related experience with at least 5 years of relevant, progressively responsible experience.
- Demonstrate advanced knowledge of technical principles, theories, standards, practices and procedures in data analytics and/or data warehousing.
- Ability to coach or mentor less senior staff.
- Ability to multitask.
- Ability to lead complex projects that may involve other IT sections, other departments, and consultants.
- Ability to support multiple increasingly complex software applications or database platforms.
- Must have experience in broad range of tools and technology used by NNSS.
- Ability to solve complex design problems.
- Strong analytical skills.
- Demonstrate good problem solving skills.
- Demonstrate good technical trouble shooting skills.
- Demonstrate good testing and debugging skills.
- Demonstrate strong skillset in SQL Server and Oracle relational databases.
- Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills
- The primary work location will be at the Losee Road facility in North Las Vegas, Nevada.
- Work schedule will be 4/10s Monday through Thursday (subject to change).
- Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
Ability to obtain a HSPD-12 Personal Identity Verification credential under the Department of Energy Order 206.2, ‘ Identity, Credential, and Access Management ,’ and Supplemental Directive NNSA SD 206.2, ‘ Implementation of Personal Identity Verification for Uncleared Contractors .’

Annual salary range for this position is: $97,219.20 - $145,828.80.
Starting salary is determined based on the position market value, the individual candidate education and experience and internal equity.
