AtkinsRéalis is looking for Probabilistic Safety Assessment Analyst(s) (PSA) to be a part of our team in supporting the design of new nuclear power plants and the operation and refurbishment of existing CANDU nuclear power plants. The senior PSA analyst will work with other junior and senior staff to develop and apply advanced analysis methodologies to perform PSAs and other PSA related safety analyses for existing, refurbishment and new build. These include issues related to hazard identification, Level 1 PSA, Level 2 PSA, Level 3 PSA, seismic, flood and or fire safety assessments, failure mode and effect analyses, internal and external events. The candidates are also expected to be able to develop training material in PSA and review PSA documents.

Location – Buenos Aires, Argentina

Your role

The candidates are expected to have strong analytical and technical skills in PSA and be ready to take on various technical tasks within a short period of time. This includes but not limited to:

  • Perform probabilistic safety assessments for internal events, shutdown states, internal fire/flood, seismic events, and other external hazards.
  • Conduct reliability assessments of process, safety, balance‑of‑plant, and operational systems, including emergency core cooling and containment.
  • Interface with clients and projects to assess operational and safety issues, advise on solutions, and prepare or review internal and external work proposals.
  • Develop risk monitors and generation risk assessments while applying knowledge of Canadian, U.S., and IAEA PSA methodologies, codes, and standards.
  • Plan, schedule, conduct, and coordinate analysis phases for large‑scope projects, including proposing and developing safety‑analysis approaches.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary teams, supervise staff, review work quality, and provide technical guidance and leadership to junior engineers and technical employees.
  • Promote strong teamwork and ensure project‑aligned execution through positive reinforcement, proactive collaboration, and adherence to project requirements.

About you

  • A Relevant honours degree from a university of recognized standing in Engineering with 10 years + experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to carry out responsibilities noted above.
  • Excellent knowledge of the CANDU design, including both NSP (especially safety systems) and BOP.
  • Broad knowledge of system operation, plant response and understanding of underlying reliability principles.
  • Able to work closely and effectively with the clients in a client/consultant relationship.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and be flexible, i.e., must be able to perform varied work assignments effectively and respond quickly to changing project needs.
  • Knowledge of severe accident analysis and severe accident management guidelines.
  • Proven leadership skills, as technical guidance to assist and supervise analysts
  • Ability to show initiative while working in a team environment.
  • Ability to work to budget and schedule.
  • Must be willing to travel occasionally to participate in walkdowns, meetings and workshops.
  • Full commitment to work in a formal QA environment.
  • Proficient in CAFTA suite of computer codes, CFAST and RiskSpectrum an asset.
  • Experience in licensing activities would also be an asset.
  • Understanding of light water reactor design and PSAs is an asset.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
