Your Opportunity

Our Chandler, Arizona Mining group has an immediate need for a BIM/CAD Project Design Lead to support feasibility studies, detailed engineering, and construction-phase projects for underground and surface mining operations.

This role is focused on supporting project design delivery and digital execution across multidisciplinary mining projects. The successful candidate will work closely with Project Managers, Project Technical Leads, Engineers, Designers, and the Mining Digital Delivery/BIM Lead to help establish project design workflows, implement BIM/CAD standards, and support the consistent delivery of high-quality models, drawings, and design packages.

The BIM/CAD Project Design Lead will serve as a project-facing design and digital delivery resource, helping teams effectively apply Stantec’s BIM/CAD standards while also identifying opportunities to improve project setup, model organization, content development, drawing production, and interdisciplinary coordination.

This position is ideal for an individual who enjoys both hands-on design work and design leadership responsibilities. The role will support project setup, designer coordination, standards implementation, digital content creation, and continuous improvement of BIM/CAD workflows in collaboration with the existing Mining Digital Delivery/BIM Lead and broader project teams.

Your Key Responsibilities

• Work in compliance with all Health and Safety rules and regulations for Stantec and its Clients.
• Support the setup of new projects using established Mining BIM/CAD standards, including model structure, file organization, templates, drawing packages, naming conventions, and digital delivery requirements.
• Collaborate with the Mining Digital Delivery/BIM Lead to implement standard project setup workflows and maintain consistency across mining projects.
• Work closely with Project Managers, Project Technical Leads, Engineers, and Designers to establish clear project expectations, design workflows, and deliverable requirements.
• Support the development and implementation of project-specific BIM Execution Plans, model matrices, drawing lists, and other digital delivery documentation.
• Assist project teams with Common Data Environment workflows using platforms such as Autodesk Construction Cloud, ProjectWise, SharePoint, and similar systems.
• Lead and coordinate design production efforts on assigned projects, including model development, drawing production, interdisciplinary coordination, and deliverable packaging.
• Prepare and coordinate 3D models, design packages, and detailed engineering drawings using platforms such as Revit, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Navisworks, and related software.
• Support engineers and designers in applying appropriate modeling practices, drawing standards, and project delivery requirements.
• Coordinate with other disciplines to support integrated project delivery, model reviews, clash detection, design coordination, and constructability reviews.
• Work with consultants and subconsultants to support alignment with project CAD/BIM requirements and standards.
• Collaborate with the Mining Digital Delivery/BIM Lead and project teams to develop, maintain, and improve BIM/CAD standards, procedures, templates, and best practices.
• Create, maintain, and improve digital content such as Revit families, CAD blocks, templates, details, model components, and other electronic content to support efficient project delivery.
• Help identify gaps in existing standards, tools, templates, and content libraries based on active project needs.
• Support the development of consistent model organization, drawing production methods, file naming practices, and design coordination workflows.
• Evaluate and recommend improvements to BIM/CAD processes, software, digital tools, and project delivery workflows in coordination with the Mining Digital Delivery/BIM Lead.
• Review drawings and models for quality, consistency, coordination, constructability, and compliance with project and client requirements.
• Promote adherence to company drafting, modeling, and digital delivery standards.
• Support quality management processes and design reviews throughout project execution.
• Monitor design progress and support project teams in meeting schedule and quality objectives.
• Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, consistency, and collaboration across project teams.
• Provide day-to-day BIM/CAD support to designers and project teams.
• Mentor junior and intermediate designers in modeling techniques, drawing production, project setup, digital content creation, and project delivery workflows.
• Support BIM/CAD training and knowledge-sharing initiatives in coordination with the Mining Digital Delivery/BIM Lead.
• Act as a resource for troubleshooting design software, model setup, content, and workflow issues.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, along with excellent interpersonal and organizational abilities and a willingness to work in a team atmosphere.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with project teams, designers, engineers, and existing digital delivery leadership.
• Demonstrated ability to support and mentor design teams in a multidisciplinary project environment.
• Strong understanding of engineering design delivery, model coordination, drawing production, and BIM/CAD project setup.
• Experience implementing established BIM/CAD standards on active projects.
• Experience developing or maintaining digital content such as Revit families, CAD blocks, templates, details, and model components.
• Extensive experience with Revit, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Navisworks, and related BIM/CAD platforms.
• Experience using Common Data Environments such as Autodesk Construction Cloud, BIM 360, ProjectWise, SharePoint, or similar platforms.
• Experience performing design coordination, model review, clash detection, and drawing quality review activities.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality, consistency, and continuous improvement.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and support several projects simultaneously.
• Mining, heavy industrial, water, infrastructure, or similar project experience preferred.
• Willingness to travel to project sites and other Stantec offices as required.
• Valid driver’s license is required.

Education and Experience

• Engineering Technology Diploma, Design Technology Diploma, Engineering Degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 7+ years of experience in engineering design, BIM, CAD, or digital project delivery.
• 5+ years of experience working with BIM/CAD technologies in a multidisciplinary project environment.
• Experience supporting project setup, model coordination, drawing production, and BIM/CAD standards implementation.
• Experience creating or maintaining digital design content such as families, templates, details, and related model/drawing resources.
• Experience supporting mining and heavy industrial projects is preferred.
• BIM certification or equivalent industry experience is considered an asset.

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field visits and travel to client sites or other Stantec offices may be required.
