About The Role

Introduction: An opportunity for a Harness / Electrical & Electronics Manufacturing Engineer – Spacecraft AIT has arisen within Airbus Defence and Space in Getafe (Madrid).

Brief description of the department’s mission : The selected candidate will join the Technological Areas Team, supporting a specific set of Space projects.

The purpose of the Manufacturing Engineer (ME) is to deliver an end-to-end, time- and cost-optimized harness manufacturing and integration process that meets project requirements while complying with Airbus business standards, practices and procedures.

As a key role at Project level, the Manufacturing Engineer participates in product definition, manufacturing process definition and integration technology selection, ensuring that time, cost and quality requirements are achieved. This includes applying principles such as modularization, standardization, LEAN, shared integrated systems, accessibility, industrial viability, eco-efficiency and ergonomics.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The main tasks of the jobholder will be

  • Define and optimize the manufacturing and integration process for electrical harness activities, including build process, work sequence, process flow, lead times, critical paths, skills mapping, resources, industrial means and production constraints, in accordance with Airbus operational standards.
  • Concur with Engineering during the development phase to ensure that design solutions are feasible and compatible with the industrial system, contributing to the definition of the as-planned structure together with Engineering and the Mechanical Design Office.
  • Prepare and maintain the Manufacturing Dossier and work preparation documentation, including Manufacturing Procedures, Work Orders, Manufacturing Bill of Material, work instructions, data collection documents, electrical test documentation, Material & Processes Selection Lists and Standard Selection Lists.
  • Provide technical support to Production and AIT teams during shopfloor execution of breadboards, Qualification and Flight Models, fostering regular feedback loops with Production and Quality. Support may also include activities at customer sites, supplier facilities or spaceports during launch campaigns.
  • Drive industrial performance and continuous improvement, analyzing manufacturing technologies and capabilities available at the Space Spain Plant and extended industrial partners, integrating Quality, PFMEA and Health & Safety requirements, and contributing to SQCDP panels, schedule reviews, recovery plans and capability deployment for new products and processes.
  • Contribute to project industrial planning, bids and investments, providing inputs to industrial planning, costs and schedules, production line balancing, process times, estimated lead times, resource optimization and CapEx planning, while supporting the identification and specification of required industrial assets such as jigs, tools, tooling and machines.

  • Education: Degree in Aerospace, Electrical, Electronic, Systems Engineering or a related discipline. A lower qualification may also be considered when supported by a high level of relevant professional experience in the required disciplines.
  • Experience: 3 to 5 years of experience in a production environment, preferably related to Space products, Manufacturing Engineering or electrical/electronic manufacturing and testing processes for the Space industry.
  • Technical knowledge: Good understanding of electrical engineering and systems, with knowledge and experience in manufacturing activities related to electrical harness products. Understanding of manufacturing techniques and aerospace standards such as ECSS, ESCC and MIL is required, as well as the ability to prepare and understand clear manufacturing documentation and instructions.
  • Digital tools: Proficiency in MS Office applications, especially Microsoft Excel. Knowledge of CATIA Electrical Module, Excel VBA, Google Apps Script, Windchill, SAP or other ERP systems will be valued.
  • Soft skills: Strong teamwork and communication skills, process- and quality-driven mindset with high attention to detail, self-motivation, adaptability to changing priorities in a multi-project environment, good planning and time-management skills.
  • Valuable / Nice to have: Knowledge and experience related to RF & Antennas products will be valued. Previous experience supporting Spacecraft AIT activities, Qualification or Flight Models would also be an advantage.
  • Languages: Good written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Availability: Ability to work off-site for undefined periods at short notice when required. The work schedule may vary depending on operational needs and may occasionally require extended hours and flexibility.
