Job Description
The Healthcare Merchant Payments Sales Consultant is responsible for developing new business, expanding existing relationships, and delivering consultative payment solutions to healthcare practices and related organizations. This role partners closely with Business Banking ( $2.5M-$25M), Healthcare Relationship Managers, Treasury Management, product specialists, implementation teams, and other internal stakeholders to evaluate each client’s end-to-end payment environment and connect business needs with the right U.S. Bank and Elavon capabilities.
The successful candidate combines payments expertise, healthcare industry knowledge, disciplined sales execution, and the ability to translate complex payment workflows into clear, practical recommendations that improve the client experience, operational efficiency, cash flow, and relationship value.

Key Responsibilities
- Develop and manage a strong pipeline of new healthcare merchant payment opportunities through self-sourced prospecting, internal referrals, portfolio reviews, centers of influence, industry events, and strategic partnerships.
- Lead consultative discovery conversations to understand how clients accept, process, fund, reconcile, secure, and report payments across in-person, online, mobile, recurring, and integrated channels.
- Assess the client’s broader payments ecosystem, including merchant acquiring, gateways, point-of-sale solutions, card and ACH acceptance, tokenization, funding, chargebacks, fraud controls, PCI compliance, data security, software integrations, and reporting.
- Evaluate healthcare-specific workflows such as patient collections, pre-service and point-of-care payments, post-visit balances, card-on-file, payment plans, text-to-pay, online bill pay, auto-posting, reconciliation, and integration with practice management, EHR/EMR, and revenue cycle systems.
- Design and present tailored payment strategies that support revenue growth, accelerate receivables, reduce administrative work, improve patient and staff experiences, and strengthen the client’s overall banking relationship.
- Coordinate with product, pricing, underwriting, risk, technical, implementation, service, and banking partners to deliver a smooth experience from discovery and proposal through onboarding, activation, and ongoing relationship management.
- Build productive relationships with Healthcare Relationship Managers, Business Bankers, Treasury Management partners, branches, and other referral sources; provide timely updates and maintain clear ownership of each opportunity.
- Prepare compelling proposals, demonstrations, business cases, and executive presentations that clearly articulate financial and operational value.
- Maintain accurate opportunity, activity, pipeline, and forecast information in Salesforce or other designated systems.
- Meet or exceed assigned goals for revenue, sales, approvals, activations, relationship expansion, client retention, and partner engagement.
- Stay current on healthcare market trends, payment technologies, competitors, regulatory expectations, network rules, and emerging payment methods.
- Manage client and bank information responsibly and operate in accordance with all applicable laws, regulations, risk standards, and internal policies.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience.
- Five or more years of experience in merchant acquiring, payment processing, treasury management, financial services, healthcare technology, or consultative business-to-business sales.
- Demonstrated experience developing new business, managing a sales pipeline, and navigating complex, multi-stakeholder opportunities.
- Strong understanding of the end-to-end payments ecosystem, including acquiring, issuing, card networks, gateways, processors, independent software vendors, payment facilitators, point-of-sale solutions, digital wallets, ACH, settlement, funding, reconciliation, interchange, authentication, fraud, chargebacks, and data security.
- Ability to travel within the assigned market or nationally as business needs require. Estimated to be 25% or more for meetings and presentations that may require an in person meeting.
Preferred Qualifications
- Seven or more years of relevant payments, banking, or financial technology experience.
- Healthcare payments or healthcare financial services experience strongly preferred, particularly with physician, dental, veterinary, ambulatory, specialty practice, hospital, health system, or healthcare software clients.
- Working knowledge of patient payment and revenue cycle workflows, practice management systems, EHR/EMR platforms, ERP solutions, healthcare integrations, and automated posting and reconciliation.
- Knowledge of healthcare privacy and payment security considerations, including HIPAA, PCI DSS, tokenization, encryption, and point-to-point encryption.
- Experience selling integrated, omnichannel, or software-enabled payment solutions and collaborating with technology partners or independent software vendors.
- Strong financial and analytical skills, including the ability to review processing statements, evaluate pricing, quantify savings, identify workflow efficiencies, and build a clear value proposition.
- Excellent client-facing communication, discovery, negotiation, presentation, and executive relationship-management skills.
- Proven ability to work across sales, product, technology, implementation, operations, service, risk, and banking teams.
- This position also requires 10 or more hours of driving per week in their local market.

The salary range reflects figures based on the primary location, which is listed first. The actual range for the role may differ based on the location of the role. In addition to salary, U.S. Bank offers a comprehensive benefits package, including incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase 401(k) contribution and pension (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). Pay Range: $103,950.00 - 127,050.00
