Driven by our purpose to enable healthier lives everywhere, every day, we are seeking a talented and experienced Electrical Engineer to join a growing R&D department in our Surgical Division to contribute to sustaining of both Capital and Disposable products. The Sr. Electrical Engineer, Product Engineering, delivers value by ensuring all capital products continue to meet the needs of both customers and the business throughout their lifecycle. Our team is customer focused, working to enhance the user's experience through improving our system's performance, compliance and reliability through state-of-art hardware design and selection, robust testing, and analysis.

The Sr. Electrical Engineer, Product Engineering, delivers value by both maintaining HW continuity of our existing portfolio and driving for design improvements that improve quality, performance, and reduce cost. As a key stakeholder with Regulatory, Quality, Manufacturing, as well as external suppliers, the Sr. Electrical Engineer of Product Engineering is expected to lead and/or support multiple projects across multiple products at once. They are expected to troubleshoot HW issues on field returns or in manufacturing, leading root cause efforts with support of Quality and SMEs from NPD. They will be responsible for developing verification strategies for all design changes, ensuring that these strategies work within Hologic QMS and a product’s Risk Management file. Because they touch the entire portfolio, they are adept at building networks with key contacts outside their own area of expertise.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain existing product lifecycle by safeguarding against electrical component EOL. This effort will span the evaluation of single-component EOL and large-scale EOL programs touching multiple PCBs/products.
  • Lead troubleshooting efforts on electrical and electro-mechanical systems of field returned units. Determine root cause and implement design changes based in quality/risk imperatives.
  • Lead HW design efforts of product line extensions, VIPs (value improving project), or new features of existing products.
  • Develop electrical test fixtures and/or prototype boards to support testing during root cause or for design improvements.
  • Support Manufacturing with process and fixture improvements surrounding critical HW.
  • Work with strategic sourcing partners to implement technical-cost-out design changes.
  • Interpret existing verification methods of electrical components, PCBs, and subsystems. Improve upon them to ensure state-of-art practices are maintained.
  • Lead communication with component and PCB suppliers to solve problems/improve designs.
  • Build and maintain strong collaborative relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and processes to support ongoing innovation.
  • Qualifications and Experience
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s in Electrical Engineering
  • 5+ Years of work experience in new product development and/or the medical device industry with Bachelor’s Degree
  • 3+ Years of work experience in new product development and/or the medical device industry with Master’s Degree

Skills

  • Ability to trouble shoot and root cause failure modes associated with PCBs and electro-mechanical systems
  • Schematic-level design experience, preferably experience using the Altium toolset
  • Proficiency with use of electrical test and development equipment such as oscilloscopes, LCR meters, logic analyzers, and power supplies
  • Foundational knowledgeable of DFM (Design for Manufacturing) as it applies to EE design
  • Experience with FPGAs and CPLDs
  • Experience with analog and digital circuits, including microcontrollers and power delivery circuitry
  • Experience with design for IEC 60601 safety and EMC
  • Knowledge and experience across engineering disciplines. Familiarity of embedded systems with ability to collaborate between hardware and software working groups.
  • Exceptional verbal, written and presentation communication skills; ability to adapt communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Proficient in generating technical documentation including test protocols, reports, and design descriptions

Travel

Ability to travel as necessary up to 10%.

The annualized base salary range for this role is $119,300 - $186,600 and is bonus eligible. Final compensation packages will ultimately depend on factors including relevant experience, skillset, knowledge, geography, education, business needs and market demand.
