Work Shift

Wellstar Medical Group is seeking an experienced and motivated Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) to join our growing Nephrology team at Wellstar Medical College of Georgia Health in Augusta, Georgia. This provider will collaborate closely with board-certified nephrologists to deliver comprehensive kidney care across inpatient and outpatient settings.

The APP will play a key role in the evaluation, treatment, and longitudinal management of patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD), end-stage renal disease (ESRD), hypertension, electrolyte disorders, acute kidney injury, and other complex renal conditions. This position offers the opportunity to practice within a nationally recognized academic health system dedicated to clinical excellence, innovation, teaching, and research.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive nephrology care in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Assess, diagnose, and develop treatment plans for patients with acute and chronic kidney diseases.
  • Manage patients with CKD, ESRD, dialysis-dependent conditions, hypertension, electrolyte abnormalities, and glomerular disorders.
  • Conduct patient evaluations, order and interpret diagnostic testing, and prescribe appropriate therapies.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nursing staff, dialysis teams, pharmacists, and other multidisciplinary providers to optimize patient outcomes.
  • Participate in hospital rounds, consultations, and ongoing patient care management.
  • Educate patients and families regarding kidney disease management, treatment plans, and preventive care strategies.
  • Document patient encounters in accordance with organizational, regulatory, and billing requirements.
  • Support quality initiatives, evidence-based practice, and clinical process improvement efforts.
  • Participate in educational and academic activities, including training and mentoring of learners as appropriate.

Qualifications

Required

  • Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program.
  • Current Georgia licensure or eligibility for Georgia licensure.
  • National board certification as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant.
  • DEA certification or eligibility.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Preferred

  • Previous nephrology experience.
  • Experience managing patients with CKD, ESRD, dialysis, hypertension, and electrolyte disorders.
  • Prior inpatient and outpatient clinical experience.
  • Interest in academic medicine, clinical research, and quality improvement initiatives.
