The role

What will you be doing?

○ Lead the setting of central pricing bases and agree product terms across Unum’s Group Income Protection, Group Life, Group Dependants and Group Critical Illness products.

○ Own and deliver pricing reviews, annual experience investigations, and recommendations for changes to pricing assumptions, ensuring appropriate peer and risk reviews are completed.

○ Monitor emerging risk trends, new money rates, expenses and cost of capital, recommending pricing adjustments where needed to keep our approach commercially robust and within risk appetite.

○ Play a key role in pricing governance, preparing clear reports and presenting recommendations to senior forums including the Pricing Governance Group, Strategic Revenue Price Group and other committees.

○ Work closely with key partners across Financial Underwriting, Distribution, Marketing and DT&T, helping to translate pricing insight into practical commercial decisions.

○ Consider the impact of pricing recommendations on vulnerable customers, fair value, Conduct Risk, Consumer Duty and wider Solvency II governance requirements.

○ Maintain strong controls across pricing processes, while proactively identifying opportunities to improve ways of working within the team.

○ Support pricing and risk selection strategic initiatives, helping shape the future direction of pricing capability across the business.

○ Provide line management, technical guidance and coaching to actuarial students and newly qualified actuaries, supporting their development and contribution to the team.

What will you bring?

○ You’ll be a qualified actuary with strong post-qualification experience, ideally gained within life, health or protection insurance.

○ You’ll bring strong pricing experience, with the technical confidence to review assumptions, investigate experience and make sound recommendations in a complex commercial environment.

○ You’ll have a degree-level education, ideally 2:1 or above, in a subject with significant mathematical or statistical content.

○ You’ll be highly numerate, comfortable working with data and pricing models, and confident using IT tools to support analysis and decision-making.

○ You’ll have excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to produce clear, concise reports and present technical recommendations to senior audiences.

○ You’ll be able to balance technical rigour with commercial judgement, managing competing priorities and delivering high-quality work under pressure.
