Job Description
Shape the numbers. Shape the future.
In Finance at Lloyds Banking Group, we do a lot more than balance the books. We’re part strategists, part storytellers, part tech-savvy problem-solvers. We guide big decisions, steer smart investments, manage risk. And keep the UK’s biggest bank on the front foot.
But let’s be clear this isn’t a “learn as you go” role alone.
It’s a professional qualification journey that will challenge and stretch you from day one.
As part of our Accounting & Business Insights programme, you’ll be working towards becoming a chartered accountant, developing the technical excellence, judgement and credibility needed to operate at the heart of the business. You’ll balance a demanding role with structured study, exams and continuous development. It takes commitment, resilience and real drive but the reward is a career-defining qualification and skillset.
The financial world is changing at speed new technology, evolving regulation and shifting customer needs. We’re right there, shaping what comes next. We dive into data, track markets, influence how products are built, and ensure the Group’s financial position is not only strong, but sustainable.
You won’t be on the sidelines. You’ll be applying accounting expertise to real business challenges turning complex data into insight, informing decisions on where we invest, how we manage risk, and how we deliver long-term value.
Three years. Four big rotations. Unlimited learning .
Over three years, you’ll develop deep technical expertise while building the commercial insight to influence business decisions.
getting a panoramic view of how the bank ticks (and how to keep it ticking smoothly).
Your journey will include
- Core Finance – building strong foundations in reporting, budgeting and forecasting
- Insight, data and analysis – using data and technology to generate forward-looking insights
- Final year specialisation – choosing your path in:
o Business partnering – working directly with stakeholders to influence decisions
OR
o Technical Accounting – deepening your expertise in accounting standards and controls
Alongside your placements, you’ll be studying towards a globally recognised chartered accountancy qualification requiring focus, discipline and the ability to manage competing priorities.
What your work could look like
- Spotting market trends and helping shape our investment strategy.
- Designing controls to keep the Group’s finances rock-solid.
- Turning complex figures into clear, actionable insight for senior leaders.
- Across the programme, you’ll get a 360° view of how finance powers the bank, work on projects with real strategic impact, and be part of tech-driven transformation that’s redefining what a modern finance function can do.
- What it really takes to succeed
- We’re looking for people who don’t just analyse the numbers — but question them.
- Confidence to speak up – you’ll need to share views, challenge thinking and contribute ideas, even when you’re early in your career
- Curiosity to dig deeper – asking “why?” and not settling for surface-level answers
- Proactivity – taking ownership, spotting opportunities and driving things forward without being asked
- Resilience and discipline – balancing a demanding role with professional study and exams
- Willingness to be challenged – stepping outside your comfort zone and learning quickly in a fast-paced environment
- This isn’t about having all the answers from day one — it’s about having the mindset to grow into them.
The skills you’ll master
By the end of the scheme, you’ll be
- Finance-fluent – producing accurate, high-quality financial information
- Commercially sharp – understanding how we generate revenue and create value.
- Insight-driven – turning data into clear recommendations
- Future-ready – using data, technology and digital tools to transform finance
- Influential – building trusted relationships and using your analysis to spark decisions that make a strategic difference.
- Balancing the demands - of professional study and exams with real business delivery
- You’ll also join multi-skilled teams where finance meets technology. Because in modern finance, how we work is just as important as what we deliver.
- Your future. Fully backed.
By the end, you’ll have
- A respected chartered accountancy qualification recognised across the UK and internationally
- A powerful mix of technical know-how, strategic thinking and commercial awareness.
- The network, confidence and skillset to take your career anywhere in finance – and beyond.
- We’ll support you every step of the way — covering the cost of your training and exams, providing study leave, and connecting you with mentors who’ve been through it themselves.
- But success will come from the effort you put in. This is a programme for those ready to commit, push themselves and build something meaningful.
Requirements
What you need to apply
- While we do not require a minimum degree achievement, we strongly recommend the ability to be able to demonstrate sound knowledge, understanding and technical skills aligned to the role. Some aspects of this, alongside behaviours and values, will be assessed through the application process.
- Please note that we cannot sponsor visas
