About The Role

Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express, as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. We are also building new and improved rapid transit, including GO Expansion, Light Rail Transit routes, and major expansions to Toronto’s subway system, to get people where they need to go, better, faster and easier. Metrolinx is an agency of the Government of Ontario.

Our NOC Customer Communications team is seeking Communication Controllers, to direct, manage, and oversee the daily operations of the GO Transit and UP Express transit network through the Network Operations and Customer Journey Control Centres. As an integrated team they will monitor and control various activities, coordinate responses to service incidents and emergencies and enhance GO’s ability to provide safe and reliable public transportation services.

What will I be doing?

  • Controlling, coordinating, and monitoring the overall daily operation of the GO Transit and UP Express service network and supports operational maintenance and enhancements for safe operation of GO stations.
  • Liaise between the NOC and Station Operations, Station Ambassadors and other Station staff during service disruptions and ensure communication is shared with front line staff to be disseminated to our customers.
  • Coordinating Station Services emergency response and communicating service status to both internal and external customers.
  • Managing internal and external customer communications in conjunction with service recovery, adjustments, and delays.
  • Responding to identified facilities and equipment issues to restore their safe operation.
  • Provides information for procedures for emergency response for environmental regulation, security and protection of stations and the Elevating Devices Act.
  • Document incidents through an Incident Management software.

What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?

  • Completion of a diploma in Business Administration, Transportation, or related field – or a combination of education, training and experience deemed equivalent.
  • Demonstrate progressive experience in a transportation control centre, or related experience.
  • Knowledge of transit operations and facility management
  • Knowledge of applicable health, safety, transportation, construction, and environmental legislation and codes (e.g., Employment Standards Act, Workers’ Safety and Insurance Board Act (WSIB), Occupational Health and Safety Act, Environmental Protection Act, fire and building codes, Fire Prevention and Protection Act, Energy Act, Electrical Code, Elevating Devices Act, Canadian Standards Association, and the Canadian Rail Operating Rules)
  • Excellent computer skills with high level knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint with the ability to quickly become proficient in the use of proprietary software.
  • Ability to quickly assess, and act upon situations in a fast-paced environment and to successfully manage under pressure and respond to critical changing priorities.
  • Excellent analytical, verbal, and written communications skills with the ability to multi-task.
  • Experience with unionized staff an asset.
  • Must successfully complete environmental, safety, and other training required by Metrolinx.

This is an 24/7-hour operational role, and the successful candidate(s) will be expected to work shift hours, which may include weekend, and or overnight shifts.

This role is based out of the Oakville NOC
