The mission of New Horizons is to support people to achieve self-reliance, exercise control over their lives and realize their dreams and desires. The Direct Support Professional is to support people with disabilities in their home, place of employment, or day services.

Position Details

  • Part-Time Position – Approximately 10–20 Hours/Week
  • Looking for a flexible opportunity? Our part-time Direct Support Professionals provide meaningful support while having the flexibility to pick up additional shifts when available.
  • Work approximately 12–20 hours per week
  • Must be available to work at least one full 12-hour Saturday or Sunday shift every other weekend
  • Additional weekday/weeknight shifts are available for employees who would like to pick up extra hours
  • Shifts may include 8:00 or 9:00 AM to 8:00 or 9:00 PM or 8:00 or 9:00 PM to 8:00 or 9:00 AM, depending on the schedule and staffing needs
  • Competitive Pay: $17.76–$18.78/hr
  • Weekend Premium: Earn 1.5× your rate on Saturdays and Sundays — up to $28.17/hr!

Job Knowledge and Comprehension

Assists and ensures that meals are prepared and nutritional requirements are met.

Maintains security and safety of people we serve.

Coordinates necessary shopping activities.

Ensures maintenance on household is complete.

Transportation of people supported to activities and appointments.

Staff is knowledgeable of assessment and processes used to discover the needs, preferences, and capabilities of the persons supported and how that information is used in development and review of the service plan.

Monitors crisis situations, discusses incident with authorized staff and people supported. Adjusts supports to individual preferences and helps maintain a safe environment and complies with regulations for reporting.

Supports and assists person served in all areas of their daily life, including, but not limited to preferred activities, personal appearance, grocery shopping, home cleaning, communication styles, personal hygiene, finances, and laundry.

Physical Requirements

Lifting requirements may exceed 50 lbs. during medical emergency situations and/or behavior support. Other physical activities include transferring people we support to and from wheelchairs/beds/toilets, making beds, pushing wheelchairs, carrying groceries, vacuuming, housekeeping, sweeping, and laundry. Job requires bending, stooping, climbing stairs, pushing/pulling, and driving a vehicle.

QualificationsMinimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED.

Valid Drivers License and safe driving record.

Successful completion of criminal background check.

The Board of Directors of the Human Service Agency shall have the prerogative to hire staff whose qualifications may vary from the above. This position requires access to Electronic Personal Health Information (EPHI). Current HSA Policies and Procedures apply.
