About The Role

Worker Type

Permanent

Here at BNZ, it's about more than just banking. We work together in an agile, energising environment to create innovative solutions through our promise "If you can imagine a better future, let's find a way."

We support wellbeing, flexible working and have a generous leave offering. There is the opportunity for growth, learning and career development. No two days are the same.

Mō te Tūranga | About the Role

We sat down with our Engineering Lead, and they let us know the following about the tūranga (role).

What are 4 day to day tasks the person in this role will complete?

  • Build and maintain Azure and Linux-based application environments using infrastructure-as-code and automation tools such as Terraform and Ansible Automation Platform.
  • Develop, simplify, and support deeply integrated CI/CD pipelines in Jenkins, including complex Ansible-based application deployments across Azure and Linux environments. Improve deployment repeatability, patching, testing, troubleshooting, and release confidence across non-production and production environments.
  • Troubleshoot complex end-to-end issues across applications and platform dependencies, including MQ, PostgreSQL, networking, TLS certificates, service accounts, and upstream and downstream integrations.
  • Strengthen operational resilience through production support, vulnerability remediation, lifecycle upgrades, monitoring, documentation, knowledge sharing, and sustainable support processes.

What projects / mahi (work) will the candidate be working on now and into the next year?

You will help modernise and support critical payment platforms, with a focus on Base24EPS and its supporting infrastructure. The mahi includes Azure environment builds, Linux and application lifecycle work, infrastructure and deployment automation, CI/CD improvements, MQ and PostgreSQL integration, certificate management, vulnerability remediation, platform monitoring, and production-readiness improvements. You will also work with internal specialists and external vendors to turn product guidance into secure, supportable BNZ solutions.

What attributes will this person display in order to be successful in this tūranga?

We are looking for someone who is technically curious, calm when working through complex issues, and willing to take ownership from investigation through to resolution. You will think beyond the immediate build to consider maintainability, operational risk, security, and long-term support. You will be comfortable working across multiple teams and with vendors, asking clear questions, documenting decisions, constructively challenging unsustainable approaches, and helping others learn through mentoring and knowledge sharing.

What specific tech skills would be beneficial?

  • Strong experience supporting complex enterprise applications or payment platforms. Experience with Base24EPS or other ACI payment products would be highly valuable.
  • Hands-on experience with Azure and Linux infrastructure, including virtual machines, networking, access, environment configuration, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with infrastructure and configuration automation using Terraform, Ansible, or Ansible Automation Platform, including adapting vendor automation to enterprise environments.
  • Strong experience with complex Ansible-based deployments and their integration into enterprise CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, Git, and Bitbucket or similar tools. This includes adapting vendor automation, troubleshooting deployment dependencies, and creating secure, repeatable deployment processes across multiple environments.
  • Practical knowledge of integration technologies and dependencies such as IBM MQ, PostgreSQL, TLS certificates, proxies, firewalls, and service-to-service connectivity.
  • Experience with production support, patching, platform upgrades, vulnerability remediation, monitoring, incident troubleshooting, and production-readiness activities.
  • Clear communication and stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to work effectively across engineering, infrastructure, security, network, product, and external vendor teams. Bash or Python automation experience would be advantageous.
