About The Role

As part of the global Field Service team, the Senior Field Service Engineer provides field and factory support to customers and channel partners while working closely with internal departments to drive continuous improvement in Sundyne pump and compressor products, processes, and service practices.

  • The role requires strong technical knowledge of Sundyne products, with hands-on support for installation, pre-commissioning, commissioning, troubleshooting, controls, instrumentation, PLCs, and rotating equipment.
  • Domestic and international travel of 50% or more is required.
  • The compensation structure includes base salary plus overtime up to a defined level.

Key Responsibilities

  • Travel to customer sites to support the installation, pre-commissioning, commissioning, troubleshooting, and rebuilding of Sundyne API and non-API equipment in accordance with OEM and API specifications.
  • Supervise customer craft personnel during on-site work to ensure activities are completed safely, accurately, and to the required technical standards.
  • Prepare thorough field reports and ensure customer and OEM documentation is completed accurately and on time, including time sheets and travel and expense reports.
  • Communicate professionally and collaborate effectively with customer personnel, channel partners, and internal Sundyne teams at all levels.
  • Provide technical expertise on centrifugal pumps, centrifugal compressors, controls, instrumentation, and complex rotating-equipment failure modes, including mechanical, electrical, and process-related issues.
  • Analyze equipment hardware and operating conditions to identify failure modes and confirm whether parts and systems meet OEM requirements.
  • Lead Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) activities with internal teams, customers, and channel partners.
  • Troubleshoot field units using control-system logic expertise and verify that control systems are configured for proper Sundyne equipment operation.
  • Create and manage service cases in Microsoft CRM to respond to customer and channel-partner service requests.
  • Perform independent warranty evaluations at customer sites and on returned hardware to determine whether failure modes are warrantable.
  • Deliver excellent customer service and maintain a strong focus on customer satisfaction.
  • Follow all safety regulations and processes and complete all required Sundyne job-safety training.
  • Train customers and channel partners through quarterly factory training courses.
  • Mentor and train junior Field Service Engineers to perform service work in the field according to OEM and API specifications.

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • Experience with PLCs, rotating equipment, or mechanical systems.
  • Knowledge of process-control equipment and the ability to read P&ID drawings to troubleshoot field issues.
  • Experience working with cause-and-effect diagrams, P&IDs, and API seal plans.
  • Ability to read mechanical drawings and use GD&T to confirm that parts meet OEM specifications.
  • Previous experience with international travel and field service assignments.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and act professionally in customer-facing environments.
  • Self-directed work style, sound judgment, and the confidence to operate independently in the field.
  • Ability to train and mentor junior Field Service Engineers.
  • Curiosity, willingness to learn new skills, and a strong problem-solving mindset.
  • Ability to adapt on customer sites while managing expectations, constraints, and available resources.
  • Strong technical writing skills, including the ability to prepare service reports and RCFA documentation.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Electronic Engineering with at least five years of field experience; or
  • Two-year technical degree in a related field with at least seven years of field experience; or
  • A minimum of five years of relevant field experience without a degree.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and a high level of focus on customer satisfaction.
  • Excellent personal organization and time-management skills.
  • Flexibility to manage multiple projects at different stages while balancing competing priorities.
  • Experience with PLCs and control logic.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with American Petroleum Institute (API) standards.
  • Experience with CAD software such as AutoCAD, NX, or SolidWorks.
  • Working knowledge of the concepts, practices, and procedures used in the oil and gas, chemical, or related industries.
