Upholstery Finishing Technician
thuma · Riverside, California
About The Role
The Upholstery Finishing Technician is the craft engine of Thuma's in-house upholstery finishing operation. We fit tailored upholstered slipcovers to furniture frames on demand to complete customer orders. This includes fitting slipcovers to the frame, seating cushions to spec, photographing finished units, and packaging them for outbound shipment. It is precise, physical, hands-on work for someone who loves producing high-quality results.
This role will report to the Upholstery Finishing Supervisor and work to a documented SOP, with a completion photo and quality check on every unit. This is an on-site role, Monday through Friday, roughly 8am to 5pm local time.
You Will
- Fit and apply tailored upholstered slipcovers to sectional frames to an exacting standard.
- Finish and dress furniture components according to the customer orders and Thuma quality standards.
- Inspect all sub components and screen for imperfections. Seat cushions and finish each unit so it looks its best (cushion seating is the top quality risk).
- Take clean, on-brand completion photos of every finished unit.
- Package finished units for outbound and stage them for pickup.
- Follow SOPs and flag any subcomponent that does not meet the highest standard.
- Keep the finishing area clean, organized, and photo-ready.
- Move units safely using tables, carts, and conveyors.
- Take responsibility over the quality of your work and personally sign off on every completed unit.

- Strong fabric-handling craft: manual and finger dexterity, arm-hand steadiness, and good color and near vision for matching and detail work.

- Comfortable standing for a full shift and helping maneuver units weighing up to 139 lbs using team lifts and equipment.
- Comfortable taking simple, clean product photos (training provided).
- Team-oriented, and quick to learn our slipcover fit-and-finish method on top of existing craft.
