Summary of Job Duties
The Senior Clinical Therapist for the Student Wellness Program will provide direct clinical services such as diagnostic assessment, individual therapy, family therapy, group therapy, and crisis intervention to eligible UAMS students using evidence-based interventions. Direct and indirect clinical services are provided in the office.
The Senior Clinical Therapist works directly under the supervision of the Student Wellness Program Medical Director. The Senior Clinical Therapist must have the ability to make decisions related to treatment planning. They must understand mental health diagnosis and treatment. Adaptable technological skills are required.
In addition, the Senior Clinical Therapist will be responsible for ongoing communications with their supervisor and other members of the treatment team. They complete clinical and administrative processes and documentation in compliance with relevant policies and procedures. They will participate in staff meetings, trainings, supervision, and continuing education activities as needed to maintain quality provision and coordination of care as well as professional licensure and/or certification. They will participate in outreach events for students.
The Student Wellness Program is located in the Mediplex building on the main UAMS campus in Little Rock.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Master's degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or related field
- Current and valis license by Arkansas Professional Board - Licensed Certified Social Worker (LCSW) or Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT)
Preferred Qualifications
- 3 years of direct clinical outpatient behavioral health experience
- Evidence-based treatment background, trauma-informed care model

Job Requirements
- Provide comprehensive clinical assessments for patients experiencing mental health, behavioral, emotional, and psychosocial concerns.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized treatment plans based on patient needs and clinical goals.
- Provide individual, family, and group therapy using evidence-based therapeutic interventions.
- Conduct crisis assessments and provide appropriate crisis intervention, stabilization, and safety planning.
- Assess patients for suicide, self-harm, violence, substance use, and other behavioral health risks and initiate appropriate interventions.
- Monitor patient progress and modify treatment plans as clinically indicated.
- Provide clinical consultation and support to therapists, social workers, nurses, physicians, and other members of the interdisciplinary team.
- Serve as a senior clinical resource for complex or high-risk patient cases.
- Provide clinical supervision, mentoring, coaching, and guidance to less-experienced therapists and behavioral health staff, as permitted by licensure.
- Participate in multidisciplinary treatment team meetings, case reviews, and care coordination activities.
- Coordinate referrals to community providers, psychiatric services, substance-use programs, and other supportive resources.
- Assist with discharge planning and promote continuity of behavioral healthcare services.
- Provide education to patients, families, and caregivers regarding diagnoses, treatment options, coping skills, and community resources.
- Maintain timely, accurate, and clinically appropriate documentation in the electronic medical record.
- Ensure clinical services are provided in accordance with organizational policies, ethical standards, regulatory requirements, and applicable licensure guidelines.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, program development, clinical audits, and performance improvement activities.
- Assist leadership with developing clinical workflows, policies, procedures, and behavioral health programs.
- Respond to behavioral health emergencies and collaborate with the care team to promote patient and staff safety.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA and all applicable privacy requirements.
- Facilitate staff education, clinical training, and professional development activities.
- Promote trauma-informed, culturally responsive, patient-centered care across the behavioral health program.
- Perform other duties as needed.
