About The Role

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Participates in the planning, organizing and evaluation of rehabilitation programs in support of Extendicare’s philosophy of restorative care. 2. Assists residents’ participation in planned programs which include positioning, ambulation, physical functioning and activities of daily living, as designed or designated by the Occupational Therapist. 3. Provides physical support and encouragement to residents during periods of exercise and activity ensuring against falls and injuries, and using proper body mechanics at all times. 4. Reports promptly apparent changes in resident’s condition or performance to supervisor. 5. Constructs and adjusts A.D.L. aides and devices as directed. 6. Assists with maintenance and cleanliness of rehabilitation equipment and preparation of work areas as directed.

Maintains department records, equipment records, clerical information, inventory control, monthly statistics, as required. 8. Documents care and treatments provided as required. 9. Informs therapist when supplies or equipment are required. Maintains supplies and linens as directed. 10. Porters residents and equipment as required. 11. Documents data requested by the Occupational Therapist. 12. Participates with the Occupational Therapist in meetings/rounds and conveys appropriate information regarding resident’s functional capabilities. 13. Participates in interdisciplinary care conferences, committees, meetings, as required. 14. Performs all duties in accordance with the written policies and procedures of Extendicare, the facility, and the Nursing Department. 15. Participates in evaluating care and/or services provided to residents under the Quality Assurance Program. 16. Performs all duties in a safe and efficient manner and maintains work area in a clean, orderly, and safe condition. 17. Follows manufacturers’ instructions in the operation and use of all equipment and chemicals. 18. Monitors assignment and appropriate use of equipment/aides. 19. Reports to supervisor equipment malfunctions, unsafe and hazardous environmental conditions. 20. Knowledgeable of facility procedures for fire and environmental safety. 21. Respects the resident’s right to dignity and privacy and performs duties in a courteous/respectful manner. 22. Adheres to “Standards of Employee Conduct,” “Commitment to Residents,” and “Extendicare Quality Care Standards.” 23. Performs duties in accordance with prescribed sanitation and infection control procedures. 24. Works closely and cooperates with other staff and residents. Maintains good working relations with other departments. 25. Responsible for the development and upgrading of his/her knowledge and skills. Attends in-service sessions and conferences as required. 26. Performs other related duties as assigned
