Salary range (but not limited to)

59,300 - 72,500

Annual bonus target, based on the base salary, with a potential payout of up to double the target (subject to personal and company performance):

7.5%

Salary for the candidate will be determined taking into consideration a number of factors including: experience, skills, qualifications, anticipated contribution to role, internal equity, etc. The salary range presented above is based on a 35-hour workweek and would represent a majority of different candidate profiles. However, we encourage candidates who may fall outside of this range to apply as well.

We’re looking for a Senior Underwriting Assistant to join our growing Trade Credit team in Ottawa!

In this role, you will be responsible for executing tasks associated with service delivery to our brokers, clients and prospects through application support, policy coordination and operational oversight. You will support Underwriters in the efficient delivery of high-quality service, work independently on complex activities, and provide guidance and day-to-day oversight to junior members of the team.

What you’ll do here

  • Take ownership of the data integrity and quality of policy documents, and support Underwriters in maintaining accurate and complete information.
  • Coordinate directly with customers, banks and brokers to obtain signed documents and other information required for policy administration.
  • Identify, assess and assign incoming inquiries to the appropriate individuals, ensuring timely follow-up and resolution.
  • Understand and anticipate the needs of internal and external clients, and interact with them professionally and effectively.
  • Provide research, analysis and operational support to Underwriters to improve the efficiency of new business, policy issuance, client onboarding and renewal activities.
  • Manage and coordinate operational workflows, ensuring tasks are completed accurately, efficiently and within established timelines.
  • Create and maintain records and reporting tools to ensure team performance metrics can be easily tracked, including new business, policy renewals and claims information.
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes, controls and service delivery, and contribute to the implementation of operational enhancements.
  • Work independently on assigned activities, using sound judgment to prioritize work, resolve issues and escalate matters when appropriate.
  • Provide day-to-day guidance, coaching and support to junior Underwriting Assistants and help oversee the quality and timely completion of team deliverables.
  • Support the development and maintenance of team procedures, documentation and best practices.
  • Collaborate with Underwriters and other internal stakeholders to promote consistency, efficiency and a high level of client service.

What you bring to the table

  • College Diploma or University Degree in Business, Finance, Insurance or a related field, or a combination of education and relevant work experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in underwriting support, insurance operations, trade credit, financial services administration or a related environment.
  • Thorough background in business operations, workflow coordination, process improvement and administrative controls.
  • Experience supporting external customers, brokers, clients or financial institutions in an administrative, coordinator or operations role.
  • Previous experience providing guidance, coaching or oversight to junior team members.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to interact confidently with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Sound problem-solving, analytical and decision-making skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, take ownership of responsibilities and operate effectively with limited supervision.
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills, with the ability to manage multiple workflows and meet tight deadlines.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a strong commitment to data accuracy and quality.
  • Computer literacy and proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • A collaborative, solutions-oriented approach and strong team spirit.
  • No Canadian work experience required; however, candidates must be eligible to work in Canada.
