Job Purpose: This role is responsible to execute operations of the thermal power plant during the shift, focusing on operational efficiency, safety, and compliance. The Lead Assistant Shift In-charge will support the management of all units, switchyard, and Balance of Plant (BoP), and will work closely with the Desk Engineer and other team members to maintain optimal plant performance and handle emergencies.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Team Lead- Assistant Shift In-charge (Plant Operations)

Operational Support and Efficiency

Assist in the operation of all units, switchyard, and BoP with maximum efficiency during the shift.

Support routine operational activities such as the lineup of units and their auxiliaries, changeover of equipment, and routine testing of protection and annunciation systems during the shift.

Support unit wise operations and handle emergencies including load throw off, unit tripping, equipment tripping, and generation loss.

Participate in cold, hot and warm start-up, normal operations, emergency handling, and safe shutdown of units.

Coordination and Communication

  • Monitor loading of machines, switchyard equipment, and ensure coordination with LDC, NLDC, and SLDC.
  • Guide and provide instructions to desk and field operators for safe operations.
  • Escalate plant operations-related problems and events to the team lead.

Documentation and Monitoring

  • Perform BoP area logbook filling and checking for shift activities.
  • Manage the availability of BoP area equipment during the shift hours.
  • Notify defects in SAP like oil, water, steam leakage, or any abnormalities in equipment.
  • Monitor DSM (Deviation Settlement Mechanism) and operate all units to reduce DSM loss.

Support and Emergency Response

  • Support Desk engineer during emergencies.
  • Execute recommissioning of units after AOH and COH.
  • Execute emergency equipment trials and restoration of process and equipment.

Business Sustainability

  • Adhere to the IMS, AWMS, DISHA and CHETNA guidelines within the department.
  • Maintain the safety of personnel and equipment through proper training and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Ensure adherence to compliance with all legal requirements concerning plant operations.
  • Monitor operations to ensure they are in line with statutory compliances.

Digitization and Automation

  • Support the execution of digitization strategies to optimize operational efficiency.
  • Implement automation solutions to support the company's strategic objectives.
  • Implement process and system improvements, adopting new technologies and innovative ideas.

System Monitoring and Operations

  • Monitor Boiler, Turbine, Generator, BOP, and Electrical Systems to ensure optimal performance.
  • Execute start-up and shut-down operations of the plant systems, as required.
  • Maintain close observation of plant parameters and respond promptly to any deviations.
  • Perform routine changeover of equipment and trial of emergency drives.

Emergency Response and Equipment Handling

  • Handle plant emergencies related to Boiler-Turbine-Generator (BTG) and coordinate responses.
  • Manage emergencies related to switchyards and grid problems to minimize impact on operations.
  • Ensure safe isolation and normalization of equipment in response to operational needs or emergencies.
  • Perform Flue Gas Desulfurization (FGD) operations and monitor FGD system parameters.
  • Maintain all plant parameter logbooks accurately and up-to-date.

Energy Conservation and Environmental Compliance

  • Promote energy conservation in all activities, focusing on Specific Oil Consumption (SOC), Auxiliary Power Consumption (APC), Demineralized (DM) Water usage, and Heat Rate.
  • Monitor critical chemistry parameters to ensure environmental compliance and operational efficiency.
  • Implement and oversee FGD operations to reduce emissions and comply with environmental regulations.

Business Sustainability

  • Ensure adherence to IMS, AWMS, DISHA, CHETNA guidelines within the department.
  • Maintain safety of personnel and equipment through proper training and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Adhere to Permit to Work (PTW) systems and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Notify and report defects, problems in the plant to the shift in charge in a timely manner.

Digitization and Automation

  • Execute comprehensive digitization strategies to optimize operational efficiency.
  • Implement automation solutions to support overall organizational goals/strategy.
  • Implement process and system improvements, adopting newer technologies and innovative ideas.

Educational Qualification

BE/B.tech in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or a related field from a recognized institution.

Work Experience (Range of years)

Minimum of 12+ years of experience in power plant operations with a focus on thermal power plants

Preferred Industry

Experience in the power generation industry, specifically with thermal power plants, is highly preferred.
