About The Role

Accounting Manager

Counterpart is the first Agentic Insurance™ platform, combining trusted insurance expertise with cutting-edge AI to deliver tailored management and professional liability solutions. By integrating Agentic Underwriting™, Agentic Broker Services™, Agentic Risk Mitigation™, Agentic Claims Management™, Agentic Coverage™, and Agentic Capacity™ into one powerful platform, Counterpart empowers brokers - and the businesses they serve - to do more with less risk. Backed by A rated carriers, Counterpart has been recognized by CB Insights as a 2025 “Top 50 Insurtech,” by Great Place to Work, and by Business Insurance as one of its 2025 “Best Places to Work.”

As Accounting Manager, you run the day-to-day financial operations within Agentic Finance - bordereau and premium reconciliation, carrier and claims payments, premium accounts receivable, accounts payable, expense management, financial reporting, audit administration, and tax filings - that keep Counterpart, Agentic Programs™, and Counterpart Insurance Company running. You own accounts receivable, accounts payable, expense management, and vendor administration outright, and you support the Controller on bordereau, carrier payment operations, audit administration, and financial reporting - with a path to taking ownership of bordereau and carrier payment operations as those processes stabilize. You build and run the agents that make this execution more efficient as the company scales. You report to the Controller.

YOU WILL

Own Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Expense Management, and Vendor Administration

  • Own premium accounts receivable from brokers end-to-end - invoicing and installment billing, cash application against policies and endorsements, and aging and collections follow-up - so premium owed to Counterpart is collected on time and applied accurately.
  • Own the reconciliation of broker premium remittances into the premium trust account, clearing unapplied cash before it ages and escalating past-due balances and write-off candidates to the Controller.
  • Own execution of Counterpart's spend-management automation - full accounts payable automation, invoice coding, and card-spend policy enforcement.
  • Own employee expense reimbursement administration, setting the standard for review before sign-off by Controller.
  • Own vendor records and documentation, including W-9 collection, and manage the relationships behind recurring vendor and brokerage-fee payments.
  • Own recurring program-level reimbursement invoicing end-to-end, from calculation through submission.

Support Bordereau, Carrier Payment Operations, and Claims Payments

  • Prepare bordereau assembly and the premium reconciliation process across all carrier and reinsurance relationships, resolving discrepancies before they reach the Controller.
  • Maintain the carrier payment calendar, prioritizing and resolving issues against each carrier's timing requirements for the Controller's approval.
  • Prepare monthly loss fund reporting to carrier partners - bank-to-book reconciliation, top-up requests, and check registers - resolving variances directly with carrier contacts.
  • Execute claims payments from loss fund accounts under the Controller's payment authority, partnering directly with the Claims team on payment timing and exceptions.

Support Audit Administration

  • Administer the response process for the annual company audit, carrier audit financial requests, and the R&D tax credit - compiling documentation, drafting responses, and managing the deadline calendar, while the Controller leads the auditor and tax-advisor relationships.
  • Support Counterpart Insurance Company's statutory (STAT) reporting cadence and regulatory filings, providing the underlying data and documentation the Controller needs for CIC's STAT close.
  • Maintain and continuously improve the accounting due dates calendar.

Support Financial Reporting

  • Prepare and distribute the recurring carrier partner reporting package - unaudited financials, cash position summaries, and other standard deliverables on a monthly and quarterly basis, for the Controller's review and sign-off.
  • Partner with the Controller on evaluating and coordinating contractor, vendor, or offshore support for these processes as the accounting function grows.

Drive Agentic Automation Across Accounting Operations

  • Build and use agents to automate premium receivable cash application, bordereau assembly, premium reconciliation, and claims payment processing.
  • Feed clean, structured financial data and workflows into Counterpart's Intelligence System.
  • Decide where agents replace manual work versus where judgment is still required, and partner with the technical platform team to build and continuously improve those workflows.

YOU HAVE

  • 5-7 years of progressive accounting or finance experience, ideally at a high-growth company; insurance, insurtech, or fintech experience is a plus but not required.
  • A bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Working knowledge of GAAP and STAT (Statutory Accounting Principles), and comfort operating within a regulated, multi-entity insurance business.
  • A track record of owning and improving accounting processes end-to-end - not just executing tasks.
  • Hands-on experience with an accounting system or ERP (QuickBooks, NetSuite, Sage Intacct, or similar) and an AP/spend platform (Ramp, Bill.com, or similar).
  • A demonstrated track record of using AI tools or agents to redesign reconciliations, payment processing, and routine bookkeeping.
  • Comfort managing recurring payments, reconciliations, and deadline-driven filings across multiple systems and counterparties - including direct communication with banks, brokers, carriers, tax agencies, and auditors.
  • High attention to detail and a bias toward getting the numbers right the first time.
  • Clear written and verbal communication - you can represent Counterpart directly with broker, carrier, and audit contacts.
  • Progress toward or interest in pursuing a CPA is a plus, not required.

WHO YOU WILL WORK WITH

  • Rob Hamilton , Controller
  • Dave Fanger , VP of Finance
  • Stanley Wang , Director, Pricing Analytics

COUNTERPART'S VALUES

  • Conjoin Expectations - it is the cornerstone of autonomy. Ensure you are aware of what is expected of you and clearly articulate what you expect of others.
  • Speak Boldly & Honestly - the only failure is not learning from mistakes. Don't cheat yourself and your colleagues of the feedback needed when expectations aren't being met.
  • Be Entrepreneurial - control your own destiny. Embrace action over perfection while navigating any obstacles that stand in the way of your ultimate goal. Leverage AI ruthlessly. We measure success by outcomes, not lines of code written. Use every available AI tool to ship faster and think more strategically.
  • Practice Omotenashi ("selfless hospitality") - trust will follow. Consider every interaction with internal and external partners an opportunity to develop trust by going above and beyond what is expected.
  • Hold Nothing As Sacred - create routines but modify them routinely. Take the time to reflect on where the business is today, where it needs to go, and what you have to change in order to get there.
  • Prioritize Wellness - some things should never be sacrificed. We create an environment that stretches everyone to grow and improve, which is fulfilling, but is only one part of a meaningful life.
