About the Role
Total Wine & More is seeking a Senior QA Engineer to join our Technology team in our Bethesda, MD office. In this role you will help ensure the quality, reliability, and performance of our digital platforms. In this role, you will design, build, and maintain automated tests across web, mobile, and API layers to support scalable, high-quality software delivery. You will collaborate closely with engineers, fellow QA team members, and platform engineering teams to integrate automation early in the development lifecycle, enhance CI/CD pipelines, and continuously improve test coverage. The ideal candidate brings strong test automation skills, a solid understanding of modern development practices, and a commitment to driving quality throughout the engineering process. You will report to the Director, Engineering.
You will
- Collaborate with developers, QA engineers, and product managers to understand features, acceptance criteria, and test scope.
- Write and maintain test plans, test cases, and test scripts for manual and automated testing.
- Develop and execute automated tests using modern frameworks such as Playwright, Cypress, or Selenium for web applications and Postman / REST Assured for API testing.
- Participate in code reviews for test scripts and automation frameworks to ensure maintainability and consistency.
- Contribute to CI/CD integration by automating smoke, regression, and functional tests within pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or Azure DevOps).
- Log, track, and verify defects using tools such as Jira, Zephyr, or TestRail; work with developers to validate fixes.
- Contribute to test data setup and mocking/stubbing as needed for reliable automation.
- Support non-functional testing such as performance, accessibility (a11y), or security in collaboration with senior engineers.
You will come with
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field required or equivalent years of experience
- 3-6 years experience in software testing or test automation.
- Hands-on experience building and running automated UI and API tests using tools such as Playwright, Cypress, Selenium, or Postman.
- Working knowledge of at least one modern programming language (JavaScript, TypeScript, Python, or Java).
- Familiarity with CI/CD tools (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps) for automation execution and reporting.
- Good understanding of QA fundamentals, including functional, regression, and integration testing.
- Exposure to BDD frameworks such as Cucumber, SpecFlow, or Gauge is a plus.
- Understanding of RESTful APIs, JSON structures, and basic API validation principles.
- Experience using Git for version control and collaboration.
- Ability to debug issues across environments and communicate findings clearly.
- Strong attention to detail, ownership, and curiosity to learn new automation techniques.
- Familiarity with microservices testing, mock servers, or contract testing.
- Awareness of performance testing tools (k6, JMeter) or accessibility testing (axe-core, Lighthouse).
- Interest in AI-assisted testing or intelligent test optimization tools.
