About The Role
We are seeking a highly motivated Thermal Lab LabVIEW Engineer to support the development, maintenance, and continuous improvement of thermal test systems within our engineering laboratory. This role is responsible for designing and implementing automated test systems, equipment setups, and test procedures that improve testing efficiency, enhance data quality, and support product validation, qualification, and certification activities.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in test automation, instrumentation integration, data acquisition systems, and software development. This position offers the opportunity to work closely with product development, regulatory, and laboratory teams on challenging engineering projects in a hands-on environment while helping expand our laboratory automation and testing capabilities.
This position will be based onsite at our Vertiv Thermal Lab – 1050 Dearborn Dr., Columbus, OH 43085.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with Lab Leaders to coordinate daily activities of Test Technicians, including work assignments, priorities, and completion expectations.
- Collaborate closely with engineering teams to ensure test procedures, data collection methods, and test results meet or exceed project requirements.
- Develop test plans and technical presentations for customer demonstrations, product evaluations, and factory witness testing activities.
- Review, validate, and communicate test progress, data quality, and final results for development, qualification, and customer acceptance testing.
- Perform and support instrumentation calibration activities to maintain laboratory accuracy and compliance requirements.
- Design, develop, and maintain automated test applications and procedures using National Instruments LabVIEW.
- Develop software architectures for complex data acquisition and control systems utilizing National Instruments hardware, including PXI, CompactDAQ, and DAQ platforms.
- Integrate laboratory instrumentation such as power analyzers, oscilloscopes, environmental chambers, sensors, power supplies, PLCs, and communication devices into automated test solutions.
- Develop intuitive operator interfaces, test dashboards, data logging systems, automated reports, and database integrations.
- Troubleshoot, and resolve software, hardware, and communication issues impacting automated test systems.
- Collaborate with product development, test engineering, and regulatory teams to define requirements and implement effective test automation strategies.
- Support product validation, qualification, and agency certification testing activities.
- Develop and maintain software documentation, test procedures, user manuals, and change management records.
- Participate in the commissioning, calibration, maintenance, and upgrade of laboratory test equipment and automation systems.
- Drive productivity improvements through automation, standardization, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend enhancements to laboratory infrastructure, testing methodologies, and automation capabilities.
- Ensure compliance with applicable quality, safety, and engineering standards.
- Utilize electrical laboratory instrumentation to support hands-on products testing.
- Read, interpret, and apply industry test standards, technical specifications, schematics, and engineering drawings.
- Apply a thorough understanding of three-phase electrical systems and measurement techniques.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Engineering Technology, or a related technical discipline
- Minimum 3 years of experience developing applications in National Instruments LabVIEW.
- Experience with automated test systems, instrumentation control, and data acquisition.
- Strong understanding of electrical measurement principles and test methodologies.
- Experience with communication protocols such as TCP/IP, Modbus, CAN, RS-232/485, Ethernet/IP, or similar industrial interfaces.
- Ability to troubleshoot complex hardware, software, instrumentation, and control systems.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced laboratory environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively with customers and cross-functional teams.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and take ownership of projects.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with NI TestStand, LabVIEW Real-Time, FPGA, or PXI-based systems.
- Experience in thermal, power electronics, data center, UPS, battery, HVAC, or environmental testing environments.
- Familiarity with agency certification and regulatory testing requirements, including UL, CSA, IEC, or IEEE standards.
- LabVIEW Certified Developer (CLD) or Certified Architect (CLA) certification.
- Experience with machine automation, industrial controls, or advanced analytics platforms.
