Do you have the creativity, knowledge and passion to help transform and improve Fife’s parks, open spaces and green infrastructure?

This is an exciting opportunity to join Fife Council’s Grounds Maintenance Service as a Green Space Improvement Officer, where you will play a key role in shaping and delivering projects that make a real and lasting difference to communities across Fife.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, innovative and self-motivated individual who can turn ideas into successful projects. From the initial site survey and design stage through to project delivery, monitoring and completion, you will have the opportunity to influence how our parks and open spaces are developed, improved and enjoyed.

No two days will be the same. You could be developing proposals for a new green space, preparing designs and specifications, carrying out site surveys, monitoring projects on site, working with contractors, supporting a community project or identifying funding opportunities to help bring new ideas to life.

You will provide specialist advice and support in the delivery of strategic priorities, business development opportunities, land management issues and community projects. You will also contribute to the development of action plans to improve parks and open spaces and help secure funding to support future improvements.

Working with colleagues, contractors, Councillors, community groups and external organisations, you will build positive relationships and help turn ideas and ambitions into successful and sustainable projects.

Your key responsibilities will include

Developing and delivering land and green space improvement projects across Fife.
Carrying out site surveys and analysis and using this information to develop practical and creative proposals.
Preparing designs, drawings, specifications, landscape details and cost estimates.
Monitoring projects on site and working with contractors to ensure work is delivered to the required quality, programme and budget.
Providing specialist advice on landscape, horticultural, arboricultural and land management matters.
Ensuring that Health and Safety and environmental requirements are incorporated into project design and delivery.
Supporting contract management and the successful delivery of projects.
Maintaining accurate project and asset information, including contributing to GIS mapping systems and parks databases.
Identifying and researching funding opportunities and supporting funding applications.
Working with community groups and partners to support project development and fundraising.
Preparing reports, presentations and other information to support decision-making and project development.
Contributing to service priorities, initiatives and the continued improvement of parks and open spaces across Fife.

The Person

We are looking for someone who is passionate about green spaces and has the creativity, knowledge and drive to help deliver high-quality improvement projects.

You must be educated to SCQF Level 8 and hold an HND or equivalent qualification in Landscape Design or Horticulture.

You will have moderate post-qualification experience in a range of relevant subjects, preferably including landscape design, arboriculture and horticulture. You should also have a broad knowledge of horticultural techniques, land management and green space initiatives.

To be successful in this role, you should be able to demonstrate experience and knowledge in a range of the following areas:

Site surveying and analysis, including geometric and topographical understanding.
Translating survey and site analysis information into reports, proposals, specifications and costings.
Landscape design and the preparation of drawings and specifications.
Computer Aided Design systems.
Project and contract management, including monitoring the quality and progress of work.
Computer-based mapping systems and GIS.
Health and Safety issues relating to grounds maintenance operations, construction and contracting.
Funding applications, community engagement and partnership working.
Microsoft Office and the preparation of reports, presentations and technical information.

You will be a confident and effective communicator with strong written, verbal, visual and listening skills. You will have the ability to build positive working relationships with colleagues, contractors, community groups, Councillors and external organisations.

You will also be creative, organised and solution-focused, with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to manage competing priorities. You will be able to balance project ambitions and client requirements with available budgets and demonstrate a high level of integrity when dealing with sensitive issues.

Most importantly, you will bring enthusiasm, initiative and a genuine commitment to improving Fife’s parks, open spaces and green infrastructure.
