The HSE Lead role is pivotal in driving the comprehensive Health & Safety and Environmental culture within our facility.

  • The role carries accountability for the plant’s Health & Safety and Environment standards conducting

regular reviews and formulating strategic improvement plans to drive sustainable enhancements Improvements.

  • In collaboration with plant’s stakeholders, this role plays a is crucial role in providing a vision and strategy for Health, Safety and Environment ensuring the site complies with legislation and uses best practice to ensure the site is safe for employees and environmentally compliant by fostering continuous improvement and effectiveness of the company's culture as a whole.

Key Skills & Experience

  • Broad experience in WHSE improvement.
  • EHS related certification such as NEBOSH Diploma - Occupational Health, Safety Management, risk management
  • Membership in Professional Institute eg. IOSH, IEMA, IRM (Tech, Grad or Full Member) is preferred
  • Degree in Science/Engineering or equivalent experience preferred
  • Knowledge of ISO standards eg. ISO14001 and ISO45001 is preferred but not essential

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Developing and implementing the WHS & EMS plan for the Wincanton site, ensuring a WHS culture is intrinsic within the organisation.
  • Spearheads Leads the development of people, working with regional HSE team, with a clear focus on industry standards.
  • Provides advice and guidance to all levels of the organisation on all HSE and legislative issues, ensuring that good and timely business decisions are made.
  • Identifies and records H&S training needs, along with Line Managers, providing training and development as required.
  • Is accountable for developing, implementing, and maintaining plans, policies and procedures
  • relating to the HSE Policy Manual.
  • Is responsible for ensuring HSE internal and external audits are carried out in a timely manner and corrective actions are documented and closed within the specified time frame.
  • Maintains HSE records for the Wincanton site to comply with UK legislative requirements and company policies and procedures.
  • Is accountable for ensuring Accident Investigation and Reporting requirements are carried out and that appropriate corrective actions are agreed and completed in a timely manner.
  • Is responsible for ensuring that all necessary licenses, permits, and authorisations are in place and renewed as required by current governmental legislation and best practice. Also, to ensure that any specified conditions or action levels are monitored and maintained within prescribed limits.
  • Is responsible for ensuring that Noise/Dust Surveys are carried out as required and that the site acts on any recommendations made to reduce harmful exposures.
  • Liaises with HR department to ensure that employees requiring medical monitoring according to our H&S programs are referred to our Occupational Health Service provider.
  • Is responsible for ensuring that risk assessments take place and ensuring implementation of the recommendations.
  • Is responsible for ensuring that COSHH assessments are up to date and the appropriate individuals are trained.
  • Develops the H&S management structure for Site, sets agenda and takes the minutes of H&S committee meetings on a monthly basis ensuring consistent progress is made towards the actions.
  • Ensure that all new starters receive an H&S induction including Machine and electrical safety, manual handling, VDU use, posture and powered conveyance (where relevant)
  • Ensures that plant staff are kept up to date with any changes in H&S legislation or procedures.
  • Advises and implements the appropriate PPE for the tasks of the organisation in all areas of the business.
  • Ensures that we are continually looking at ways to improve our commitment to the environment, creates and implements action plans to reduce waste, emissions etc. We aim to be zero to landfill in the most labor effective fashion.
  • Close collaboration with the UK site management team to ensure engagement and support from the team for all HSE activities.
  • Supports the global H&S initiative by reviewing and improving the UK site in relation to the corporate guidelines. · Proactively and visibly supports the Health and Safety standards, rules and regulations of the organisation

Compensation: Our base salary starts from 44,878 GBP fix gross per year.
