Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

The Capital Budget Financial Analyst is responsible for the planning, forecasting, and tracking of capital expenditures (Capex) for Cogeco’s Canadian and U.S. operations.

The analyst collaborates with operational teams to analyze budget variances, validate project requests, and ensure the production of financial reports for management and accounting.

Position type: Temporary with benefits (14 Months)

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Participate in the annual Capex budgeting process, as well as quarterly forecasts and monthly rolling forecasts.
  • Meet monthly with operational teams to analyze budget variances and track project progress.
  • Prepare reports for executive leadership and management, including expense tracking (budgeted vs. actuals), and respond to ad hoc requests regarding capital expenditures.
  • Assist in finalizing detailed annual and quarterly budget forecast files, as well as entering and validating them in Workday.
  • Develop tools (reports, controls) to optimize the Capital Budget team's processes.
  • Act as a resource person for operations to assist with capital project creation requests, and review/approve project creation requests and budget transfers.
  • Perform select monthly and quarterly analyses for the accounting team (Analysis of At-Risk Projects, Analysis of Capitalized Borrowing Costs, etc.).

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field.
  • Recognized CPA accounting designation.
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience.

WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Proven work experience in a fast-paced environment with multiple stakeholders.

SPECIFIC SKILLS

  • High degree of autonomy in managing complex files.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills in both French and English.
  • Strong proficiency in analysis, synthesis, and results orientation.
  • Knowledge of Workday software is a major asset.
  • Knowledge of the Google Workspace environment (Google Sheets, Google Docs, Google Slides) is an asset.
  • Integrity and rigor.
  • Strong comfort level with technological tools (Excel, Google Sheets, AI, etc.), data manipulation, working with large files, and complex formulas.
