BCI's Capital Markets & Credit Investments team is hiring an Associate to focus on the strategic resources investment strategy within its Global Partnership Fund. Reporting to the Managing Director, you'll build financial models, support due diligence, help prepare investment committee materials, and contribute to portfolio monitoring across the strategy's investments.

We're looking for someone with 3-5 years of experience in investment banking, principal investing, or M&A advisory, and exposure to metals and mining is required. Strong financial modeling and valuation skills are essential, along with genuine curiosity about the metals, mining, and power sectors.

THE OPPORTUNITY

Reporting to the Managing Director, the Associate will focus solely on the strategic resources investment strategy within BCI's Global Partnership Fund (GPF), contributing to the definition of its investment approach while bringing a strong foundation in financial modeling, valuation, and transaction execution, developed through prior experience in investment banking, principal investing, or M&A advisory. Exposure to metals and mining is a requirement. This individual will support due diligence, build and maintain financial models, help prepare investment materials, and contribute to ongoing portfolio monitoring across the strategy's investments, developing sector expertise over time under the guidance of senior members of the team.

WHO YOU WILL WORK WITH

The Capital Markets & Credit Investments (CM&CI) department manages C$165B of capital markets and credit investments (56% of total net AUM of BCI). The department invests globally across Credit, Equities, Fixed Income, Derivatives, and Absolute Return Strategies, with investment teams located in BCI's global offices in Victoria, Vancouver, New York, and London. As a leader in responsible investing, CM&CI actively integrates ESG factors into investment analysis and decision-making processes across all strategies.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • 3-5 years of experience in investment banking, principal investing, or M&A advisory
  • Relevant education or degree; pursuing CFA, CPA, or Master's degree in Business/Economics preferred
  • Strong financial modeling, valuation, and transaction execution skills
  • Strong quantitative and statistical analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and provide actionable insights
  • Superior writing and editing skills and excellent attention to detail and the ability to produce high-quality reports and presentations
  • Strong intellectual curiosity with an interest in working across metals, mining, and power
  • A proactive, can-do attitude, with the ability to support various due diligence, monitoring, and modeling tasks
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with teammates in a dynamic, performance-driven environment
  • Exposure to mining and metals
  • Advanced expertise in Excel, including financial modeling; VBA or Python a plus

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Conducts research on companies, commodities, and market themes relevant to metals, mining, and power
  • Builds and maintains financial models to evaluate investment opportunities, assess risk, and support transaction structuring
  • Supports due diligence workstreams, including financial, commercial, and technical analysis coordinated with external advisers
  • Helps prepare investment committee materials, including investment memoranda and supporting analysis
  • Contributes to ongoing portfolio monitoring across the strategy's investments, including financial performance and milestone tracking
  • Supports year-end valuation processes for portfolio investments
  • Travels when required for due diligence or portfolio monitoring

WHERE YOU WILL WORK

This role can be based in either our Victoria or Vancouver office. We are an in-person collaborative organization with the flexibility to work remotely 1 day a week.

SALARY RANGE

The annualized base salary range for this Victoria or Vancouver-based role is CAD $115,000 to $140,000.

BCI offers a competitive total rewards package, including a performance-based incentive plan, comprehensive health & dental benefits, a defined benefit pension plan, and paid time off. We pay our people competitively in the markets in which we operate and with consideration for internal equity and job structure. The base salary will consider factors such as the individual's skill set, experience, and internal equity. We aim for actual pay to be around the market median for expected performance and the upper quartile for excellent performance. Actual salaries may vary based on experience and expertise.
