About The Role
Global Merchant & Network Services (GMNS) brings together American Express' merchant-and network related businesses to enable a sharp focus on using the power of our network to provide unique value to all our mutual customers. The organization manages the relationships with the millions of merchants around the world that accepts American Express and runs the company’s payment network and manages bank partnerships globally.
The objective of the Regulatory Business Self Testing (RBST) team under Financial Crime COE within Global Governance, Risk, Remediation, and Operations (GRRO) is to identify, assess, measure and monitor as well as report and escalate compliance risk within GMS onboarding processes to ensure adherence to regulatory standards, Amex policy and enhance the BU's resilience through managing a clear methodology of inherent and residual risk.
RBST team is looking for an Analyst focused on global KYC testing for evolving KYC refresh and partner-related testing activities and analytical capability within the team. It will involve extensive collaboration with multiple partners across numerous business units, functional areas, and geographies.
The Analyst, GMS Global KYC Testing will
- Test acquisition of merchants for adherence to AML/KYC regulations in the specific market and provide report on gaps, remedial action and systemic issues within the process.
- Provide functional leadership and subject-matter guidance to testers, including prioritization of testing activities, interpretation of testing requirements, resolution of testing queries and review of complex cases.
- Partner with Compliance, Remediation, business teams and other relevant stakeholders to understand regulatory testing requirements and translate those requirements into effective testing approaches.
- Review testing performed by testers to ensure sufficient evidence, appropriate testing methodology, accurate conclusions and consistent application of RBST standards.
- Facilitate and support execution of the Regulatory Business Self-Testing (RBST) program, ensuring testing is completed accurately, consistently and within established timelines.
- Use SQL and other analytical tools to extract, query and analyze data required for testing, validation and investigation of potential exceptions.
- Analyze testing results and provide meaningful insights into identified exceptions, root causes, risk themes and emerging trends.
Required Qualifications
- 4+ years of relevant experience in regulatory testing, Business Self-Testing (BST/RBST), operational risk, control testing, compliance testing, Internal Audit or a related risk and control discipline.
- Good understanding of regulatory testing and control-management principles, including risk identification, testing methodology, evaluation of evidence, identification of gaps and remediation.
- Demonstrated ability to lead through influence, provide guidance to testers/analysts and coordinate delivery without necessarily having direct reporting-line authority.
- Experience in process governance, with an understanding of processes that align with policies, regulatory frameworks, and/or operational standards.
- Experience interpreting testing results, identifying exceptions and risk themes, and developing clear, evidence-based conclusions.
- Strong stakeholder-management and interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to work effectively in a global, cross-functional and highly matrixed environment.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in finance, Business, Risk Mgmt., or related field; advanced degrees (e.g., MBA, MSc) or certifications are advantageous.
Experience in at least one of the following
- Experience with regulatory testing involving areas such as AML/KYC, merchant/customer acquisition, data protection, regulatory compliance or other financial-services regulations.
- Facilitating risk assessment performance in addition to further assessments and testing programs to ensure regulatory and internal standards are met
- Experience using SQL, Excel and data analytics to support risk-based testing, identify populations, select samples, validate results or identify trends and anomalies.
- Compiling thematic risk reporting to provide actionable insights on risk levels, emerging trends and root causes
- Knowledge of American Express businesses, processes, systems and the GMNS control environment would be an advantage.
