The New Porgera Limited now has a vacancy for a qualified and experienced individual to join our Processing Department as Technician – Pressure Oxidation .
About the role
Reporting to the Pressure Oxidation Supervisor / Processing Superintendent, the Pressure Oxidation Technician is responsible for the safe and efficient operation, monitoring, inspection, and routine maintenance of the Pressure Oxidation (POX) circuit within the processing plant.
The role ensures the POX process operates within approved operating parameters and achieves production targets while maintaining a strong commitment to personal safety, process safety, environmental compliance, equipment reliability, and product quality.
Working closely with Control Room Operators, Maintenance, Metallurgy, Laboratory, Process Engineering, and other processing teams, the Technician plays a key role in identifying and resolving operational issues, supporting continuous improvement initiatives, and optimising overall plant performance.
In this role, you will
- Comply with all site safety procedures, standards, permits, and statutory requirements.
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to process safety, particularly when working around high-pressure, high-temperature, oxygen, steam, acidic, and hazardous process systems.
- Conduct workplace inspections and identify hazards, unsafe conditions, and environmental risks.
- Complete required JHA/SWMS or equivalent risk assessments before undertaking work.
- Participate in isolation, lockout/tagout, confined-space, hot-work, and permit-to-work processes as required.
- Immediately report incidents, near misses, equipment defects, leaks, spills, and abnormal operating conditions.
- Maintain good housekeeping standards throughout the POX area.
- Follow environmental controls for process solutions, emissions, residues, and chemical handling.
- Operate and monitor the POX circuit in accordance with approved operating procedures.
- Monitor autoclave operating conditions, including pressure, temperature, slurry density, flow rates, residence time, oxygen addition, and other critical process parameters.
- Conduct routine field inspections of autoclaves, flash vessels, pumps, valves, piping, heat exchangers, agitators, oxygen systems, and associated equipment.
- Monitor slurry transfer and process flows throughout the circuit.
- Identify abnormal conditions such as pressure fluctuations, temperature deviations, blockages, leaks, vibration, abnormal noise, pump issues, or process instability.
- Assist with start-up, shutdown, changeover, plant isolation, and emergency response activities.
- Maintain accurate operational records, log sheets, and shift reports.
- Communicate operating conditions and outstanding issues effectively during shift handovers.
- Maintain a Hight level of health, Safety and environmental awareness and comply with all relevant NPL Policies & Procedures.
About You
To succeed in this role, the ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and experiences
- Relevant trade, processing, chemical processing, metallurgical processing, or equivalent technical qualification.
- Previous experience in mineral processing, hydrometallurgical, chemical processing, or pressure oxidation environment.
- Understanding of safe work practices in a mining or industrial processing environment.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary operations team.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to understand process diagrams, operating procedures, and equipment information.
- Willingness and ability to work rostered shifts, including nights, weekends, and public holidays were required.
