About The Role
Job Description Summary
The Controller is responsible for leading all accounting and financial operations for Timberlab’s multi-site manufacturing business. This position oversees financial reporting, cost accounting, inventory accounting, budgeting, internal controls, and month-end close activities while partnering closely with operations leadership to drive profitability, operational excellence, and continuous improvement.
The ideal candidate brings significant manufacturing accounting experience, deep expertise in cost accounting, standard costing, Bills of Material (BOMs), inventory management, and ERP systems. This role will serve as a key business partner to Operations and Executive Leadership, helping build scalable financial processes that support Timberlab's continued growth. SAP S/4HANA experience in a multi-site manufacturing environment is strongly preferred.
Job Description
ESSENTIAL RESPONSBILITES AND DUTIES
- Lead all accounting and financial reporting activities for Timberlab Laminators' manufacturing operations across multiple locations
- Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting
- Prepare and review financial statements and supporting analyses in accordance with U.S. GAAP
- Lead all manufacturing cost accounting activities, including standard costing, inventory valuation, overhead absorption, and variance analysis
- Develop, maintain, and improve product costing methodologies and cost accounting controls
- Analyze material, labor, overhead, scrap, production, and yield variances and communicate results to operational leadership
- Maintain a strong understanding of Bills of Material (BOMs), routings, production processes, and manufacturing master data
- Partner with Engineering, Operations, and Supply Chain teams to ensure BOM accuracy, inventory integrity, and product cost accuracy
- Oversee inventory accounting, cycle count programs, physical inventories, and inventory reconciliations
- Prepare monthly management reporting packages and key performance indicator dashboards
- Establish and maintain strong internal controls, accounting policies, and audit-ready processes
- Lead annual audits and serve as the primary accounting contact for external auditors
- Partner with plant leadership to identify operational improvement opportunities and support performance management initiatives
- Drive process improvement initiatives within SAP S/4HANA and other financial systems
- Develop and implement accounting procedures that promote consistency across all Timberlab manufacturing locations
- Lead, mentor, and develop accounting team members while fostering a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and operational excellence
SKILLS OR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- Minimum 10 years of progressive accounting and finance experience
- Minimum 5 years of manufacturing accounting and cost accounting experience
- Demonstrated experience supporting multi-site manufacturing operations
- Strong knowledge of cost accounting principles, including:
- Standard costing
- Inventory accounting
- Product costing
- Manufacturing variance analysis
- Overhead allocation methodologies
- Extensive experience working with Bills of Material (BOMs), routings, work centers, and manufacturing master data
- Experience utilizing ERP systems in a manufacturing environment
- Strong financial analysis, problem-solving, and business partnering skills
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
- Excellent written, verbal, and presentation communication skills
- Demonstrated leadership experience managing accounting teams
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting critical deadlines
- Self-motivated with a strong work ethic, proactive, and accountable
Preferred Skills
- Certified Management Accountant (CMA) designation strongly preferred
- SAP S/4HANA experience strongly preferred
- Experience in manufacturing, industrial products, engineered wood products, building materials, or related industries
- Experience with standard costing systems, manufacturing reporting, inventory management, and production accounting in a multi-site environment
- Experience supporting ERP implementations, system optimization initiatives, or finance transformation projects
- Experience working in high-growth manufacturing organizations with multiple operating locations
