About The Role
We are looking for a talented Rework Technician to join our 2nd Shift team specializing in Manufacturing at our Cummins Drivetrain and Braking Systems Business Unit facility in York, SC.
The Rework Technician is responsible for safely diagnosing, repairing, and verifying Rear Dressed Axles that require rework due to production, quality, system, or component-related issues. The technician also supports daily production by assisting with employee training, floating the production line, and providing additional technical support as needed.
The position supports Operations and Quality by providing a controlled rework process that minimizes production disruptions and helps prevent shipment delays.

Education, Licenses, Certifications
- High school diploma or certificate of completion of secondary education or equivalent experience to the extent such experience meets applicable regulations.
- This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.
Experience
- Significant work experience and in-depth knowledge obtained through specialized training and relevant experience.
Additional Requirements
- Perform approved rework on Rear Dressed Axles according to established procedures and specifications.
- Diagnose defects and determine the appropriate rework process based on established procedures.
- Rework brakes, calipers, chambers, ABS components, hubs, fasteners, and other axle components within the technician's approved training and qualifications.
- Use calibrated torque tools and other approved equipment to complete repairs.
- Verify that all required quality and production data is properly recorded before releasing an axle.
- Complete required PDCA, rework, inspection, and quality documentation accurately.
- Work with Quality to ensure repaired axles meet customer and internal specifications.
- Support containment activities when production or quality issues are identified.
- Maintain traceability of reworked axles, including the defect, repair performed, verification results, and technician completing the work.
- Escalate recurring defects or process failures to Operations, Quality, Engineering, Maintenance, or Controls.
- Support training and development of production operators , including demonstrating proper processes, standard work, and rework procedures.
- Assist with cross-training employees to improve flexibility across the production line.
- Float the production line as needed to cover staffing gaps, breaks, absenteeism, bottlenecks, and other production needs.
- Provide hands-on production support to help maintain line flow and achieve daily production targets.
- Assist coordinators and supervisors with identifying and correcting process issues.
- Follow all safety requirements, standard work, AQARs, work instructions, and approved rework procedures.
- Maintain an organized and 5S-compliant rework area.
- Communicate completed and outstanding rework to Operations and Quality to support on-time shipment.
- Support production during weekends and off shifts when normal technical support may be limited.
Quality & Release Authority
- The Rework Technician is responsible for completing physical rework and required documentation but does not bypass established quality controls .
- Any axle requiring Quality approval must be verified and released according to the approved Quality process before shipment.
Position Expectations
- The Rework Technician should be a highly skilled and dependable employee with strong mechanical knowledge of Rear Dressed Axle assembly and rework processes .
- The technician must be flexible enough to move between rework, training, and production support based on the needs of the operation.
- The overall objective of the position is to safely perform rework, protect the customer, support employee development, provide production flexibility, reduce unnecessary line disruptions, and support on-time shipment.
