About The Role
American Express is seeking an experienced communications professional to support its colleague communications agenda in India. As American Express' second-largest colleague base globally, India represents a significant and diverse colleague community, making effective communications critical to building alignment, engagement and connection across the organization.
Reporting to the Vice President - Corporate Affairs and Communications, Asia, the Manager - Colleague Communications will help develop and execute communications strategies and programs that connect colleagues to the company's business priorities, leaders, culture and values.
The role requires a strong communicator who combines excellent writing and storytelling capabilities with sound judgement, business acumen and the ability to build strong relationships and operate effectively in a fast-paced, matrixed environment.
- Develop and execute colleague communications plans and campaigns aligned with business priorities and the broader India and global Corporate Affairs & Communications strategy.
- Partner with senior leaders and business stakeholders to develop clear, consistent and compelling communications that strengthen colleague understanding, engagement and connection.
- Develop and execute leadership communications, including executive messaging, talking points, presentations, town halls, colleague events and other leadership engagements.
- Identify and develop compelling stories that bring to life American Express' business priorities, culture and values and how we back our customers, colleagues and communities.
- Plan and execute colleague engagement communications around key business initiatives, organizational priorities and important moments across the market.
- Develop high-quality communications materials across colleague channels, including leadership messages, emails, newsletters, intranet content, presentations and digital communications, tailoring content and approach for different audiences.
- Manage and optimize colleague communications channels to help ensure information is timely, relevant, accessible and engaging.
- Provide strategic communications counsel and support to business stakeholders and senior leaders, helping translate business priorities and complex topics into clear and engaging colleague communications.
- Partner with business teams and regional/global Corporate Affairs & Communications colleagues to ensure colleague communications are aligned, consistent and effectively coordinated.
- Support sensitive, complex and fast-moving communications, applying sound judgement and discretion in the development and delivery of colleague messaging.
- Track channel performance, colleague feedback and communications outcomes, using relevant insights to assess effectiveness and inform future communications strategies.
- Support communications governance and operational excellence through timely and accurate delivery of key reports, planning updates, communications calendars and other regional and global requirements.
- Review and facilitate approvals for colleague-facing communications and content through established company review processes, ensuring alignment with communications, brand and other relevant standards and requirements.
- Advise business stakeholders on applicable colleague communications standards, processes and governance requirements, enabling appropriate and consistent communications across the organization.
- Support third-party lifecycle and compliance requirements for communications agencies and vendors, coordinating with relevant internal partners to ensure adherence to established company processes and controls.
- Coordinate procurement, budget tracking, invoice reconciliation and related operational requirements for communications programs and third-party partners, supporting appropriate financial governance and timely execution.
- Approximately 8-10+ years of relevant experience in colleague communications, corporate communications, employee engagement or a related communications discipline, gained in-house and/or at a communications agency.
- Demonstrated experience developing and executing colleague communications strategies, campaigns and engagement programs within a large or complex organization.
- Excellent writing, editing and storytelling skills, with the ability to translate complex business topics into clear, compelling communications for different colleague audiences and channels.
- Demonstrated experience supporting senior leaders and developing effective executive and leadership communications.
- Strong judgement and experience supporting sensitive, complex or fast-moving organizational and business communications.
- Strong stakeholder-management and influencing skills, with the confidence to provide communications counsel and work effectively with senior leaders.
- Proven project-management capabilities, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, stakeholders and deliverables while maintaining high standards within tight timelines.
- Experience working across digital and colleague communications channels, with an understanding of evolving communications and colleague engagement practices.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across functions, businesses, geographies and levels of seniority in a matrixed organization.
- Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, public relations, marketing or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience, preferred.
