The Laboratory Coordinator II performs microarray sample processing using Illumina bead arrays and other microarray platforms introduced in the CAP and CLIA certified Genomics Facility, as per regulatory requirements. Reports to the Laboratory Supervisor or Manager.

  • Performs all types of Genotyping, expression, and methylation array analysis using Illumina bead arrays. Operates and maintains HiScan for scanning arrays to generate scanned raw data, in addition to Tecan automation systems.
  • Splits 50% of time on Sema4/Clinical samples and 50% of the time processing non-clinical/research samples of Mount Sinai PIs/ research laboratories and their collaborators.
  • Learns, adapts, standardizes and implements new microarray assays and new array types as cutting edge development is made in the field.
  • Meticulously maintains all paperwork required in a Core Facility.
  • Maintains microarray reagents and instruments for smooth uninterrupted microarray operations in a CLIA-compliant environment.
  • Communicates with bioinformatics and LIMS experts of Genomics Facility and assists with troubleshooting issues related to microarray operations, data storage and distribution.
  • Maintains QA policies and procedures to ensure validity of results. Recognizes factors that affect call rates and takes appropriate action according to predetermined protocols.
  • Performs quality control for all testing and meets established ranges before results are released.
  • Enters test results into the Laboratory Information System for generation of standardized reports for review and interpretation.
  • Assists Lab Manager/Supervisor in communicating with primary investigators/clients to guide sample submission, sample processing and analyses on Genome studio and troubleshoots operational and technique issues.
  • Assists in setting up new microarray platform when it is found to be necessary.
  • Assists in the purchase of equipment, reagents and lab supplies. Performs billing of work done in Genomics Core Facility and maintains ledgers.
  • Maintains HiScan and Tecan instruments by performing preventative maintenance, establishing service contracts and facilitating expeditious repairs in consultation with vendors.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned to expedite the testing process, and supports the achievement of Genomics Core Laboratory goals and objectives.
  • Bachelors degree in Biology, Biochemistry, molecular biology or related subject (or an equivalent combination of experience and education) with skills in basic molecular biological techniques such as DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, gel electrophoresis etc.

  • Within approved areas and working under the supervision of the Lab. Supervisor employee(s) have 1 (one) year to obtain their NYS Clinical Laboratory Technologist or limited license.
