Engineering Operations

  • Direct daily engineering activities and ensure the right team is assigned to the right task.
  • Ensure all hotel engineering systems, equipment and facilities operate safely and efficiently.
  • Create a safe, secure and comfortable environment for guests and colleagues.
  • Respond promptly to breakdowns, maintenance requests and operational emergencies.
  • Conduct regular inspections of guest rooms, public areas and back-of-house areas.
  • Ensure preventive and corrective maintenance is completed within agreed timelines.
  • Be flexible and react quickly to ad-hoc requirements where teams need to work together to complete critical tasks.

Building Maintenance

  • Oversee general building maintenance and repairs.
  • Ensure effective maintenance of electrical, plumbing, mechanical and HVAC systems.
  • Support carpentry and civil maintenance requirements.
  • Monitor pumps, motors, generators, electrical panels and other critical equipment.
  • Ensure guest room and public area maintenance issues are resolved promptly.
  • Identify recurring problems and implement corrective actions.

Parts, Supplies & Inventory

  • Maintain adequate engineering parts, tools and supplies.
  • Order required parts and materials in coordination with Purchasing.
  • Monitor engineering inventory and avoid unnecessary stock.
  • Minimise waste and ensure efficient use of resources.
  • Maintain appropriate records of spare parts and engineering equipment.
  • Support the hotel's green and sustainability initiatives.

Team Leadership

  • Lead, coach and develop the Engineering team.
  • Allocate daily duties based on operational priorities and colleague capabilities.
  • Ensure the team follows safe working practices.
  • Provide technical guidance and on-the-job training.
  • Monitor productivity, attendance and performance.
  • Build a flexible and multi-skilled engineering team.
  • Encourage teamwork and a proactive approach to maintenance.

Guest Experience

  • Ensure engineering issues affecting guests are addressed promptly.
  • Coordinate with Front Office and Housekeeping regarding guest room maintenance.
  • Follow up on guest complaints related to engineering.
  • Prioritise guest-impacting issues.
  • Ensure rooms are properly inspected following maintenance work.
  • Maintain a high standard of comfort and functionality throughout the hotel.

Health, Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with applicable safety, engineering, electrical, fire and environmental requirements.
  • Maintain required statutory licences, certificates and inspection records.
  • Ensure fire and life safety systems are regularly tested and maintained.
  • Promote safe working practices and appropriate use of PPE.
  • Conduct regular engineering safety inspections.
  • Support emergency preparedness and response.
  • Work closely with Security and other departments during emergencies.

Vendor & External Relationships

  • Build strong relationships with contractors, suppliers, guests, regulatory agencies and other external contacts.
  • Manage engineering service providers and contractors.
  • Monitor contractor performance and quality of work.
  • Coordinate AMC and specialist maintenance requirements.
  • Review technical quotations and service reports.
  • Ensure external agencies comply with hotel safety and operational requirements.

Energy & Sustainability

  • Monitor electricity, water, fuel and other utility consumption.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce energy and water consumption.
  • Minimise waste and improve equipment efficiency.
  • Support IHG responsible business and sustainability initiatives.
  • Promote environmentally responsible engineering practices.

Responsibilities

For Holiday Inn Express Goa Morjim , the Engineering Manager will support and lead

  • Testing and commissioning of MEP systems.
  • Electrical and HVAC commissioning.
  • Plumbing and water system commissioning.
  • STP/WTP readiness.
  • Fire and life safety system testing.
  • Lift/elevator commissioning.
  • Kitchen and laundry equipment commissioning.
  • Guest room engineering readiness.
  • Public area and back-of-house readiness.
  • Snagging and rectification.
  • Preventive maintenance programme implementation.
  • Engineering SOPs and checklists.
  • Engineering inventory and spare-parts planning.
  • AMC and service contract finalisation.
  • Recruitment and training of Engineering colleagues.
  • Statutory inspections and certifications.
  • Contractor and consultant coordination.
  • Final engineering readiness for hotel opening.

Budget & Cost Control

  • Assist in preparing the Engineering budget.
  • Monitor departmental expenses against budget.
  • Control maintenance costs without compromising safety or guest comfort.
  • Monitor spare parts and consumables.
  • Evaluate repair versus replacement requirements.
  • Identify cost-saving and energy-saving opportunities.
  • Support capital expenditure planning.

What We Need From You

  • Some college, diploma or advanced vocational/technical training in Engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum 4 years' experience in general building maintenance, hotel engineering, construction or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Hotel experience preferred.
  • Strong practical knowledge of plumbing, electrical, mechanical, HVAC and carpentry .
  • Good understanding of building maintenance and hotel engineering systems.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to lead and coach a small engineering team.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and respond to ad-hoc requirements.
  • Good vendor and contractor management skills.
  • Professional certification and/or licence where required by applicable law.
  • Relevant HVAC/refrigeration, electrical, plumbing or other technical certifications will be an advantage.
