Who are we looking for?

We have a brilliant opportunity available for an enthusiastic person to become our new Mechanical Engineer. First and foremost, we are looking for people who have the desire and commitment to be successful. We are interested in people with experience completing maintenance tasks in the textiles industry working on a busy factory floor and workshop.

As a Mechanical Engineer at Barrie Knitwear, you’ll be instrumental in maintaining, repairing Shima Knitting machines. This is an opportunity to develop and grow your career as Barrie prides ourselves on hiring the best talent. The work will initially be on a day shift basis but shift work will be required in the future.

What will you be doing in the role?

Our Mechanics work closely with our production teams to ensure machinery operates at peak efficiency, supporting the creation of world-class knitwear garments. Key duties are summarised below:

  • Maintain and repair a range of industrial knitting and finishing machinery.
  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance to reduce downtime.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical and technical faults efficiently.
  • Work closely with machine operators, production managers, and engineers to ensure seamless operation.
  • Support our Leicester site with machine set up/maintenance when required.

What will you bring to the role?

  • Proven experience as an industrial mechanic, preferably within textiles or knitwear.
  • Familiarity knitting machinery is highly desirable.
  • Strong mechanical and technical problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a cross-functional team.
  • Able to work in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment.
  • Can maintain good working relationships with internal staff.
  • Methodical and logical mindset.
  • An eye for detail and meticulous working standards.
  • Patience and perseverance.
  • You have a proactive attitude.
