About the role

This is a fixed-term, project-linked role created solely to maintain continuity of routine manufacturing operations within Bard's existing (legacy) manufacturing suites while permanent technicians are released to act as workplace trainers and trainees for the new ADHD bead manufacturing unit and associated expansion assets.

The role exists only for the duration of the Manufacturing Expansion Training Workstream and will conclude when that workstream is complete. The post-holder is accountable for manufacturing processes within an assigned legacy production area only, ensuring safe, compliant, and efficient operation of manufacturing equipment while delivering production targets and protecting supply throughout the transition period.

The post-holder will not be trained, assessed, qualified, authorised, deployed, or scheduled to work on the new ADHD bead manufacturing unit or any associated expansion asset.

Your key responsibilities

Support Legacy Manufacturing Operations

  • Support Cell Leads in achieving manufacturing targets within designated legacy production areas, working collaboratively with colleagues to ensure continuity of operations.
  • Operate manufacturing equipment in accordance with approved Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), GMP requirements, and production schedules.
  • Ensure all tasks are completed and prepared effectively for the oncoming shift, including material availability, equipment readiness, and changeover preparation.
  • Assist with validation activities, including completion of validation protocols and required sampling activities.
  • Maintain production flow to support customer demand and supply continuity during the expansion transition period.

Drive Operational Performance

  • Understand and support delivery of key manufacturing KPIs, including run-rate performance, changeover efficiency, downtime reduction, and output targets on legacy assets.
  • Participate in root cause investigations and structured problem-solving activities to improve process understanding and operational performance.
  • Work closely with Engineering and Quality teams to identify, escalate, and resolve atypical manufacturing events.
  • Support operational data collection and reporting activities, including downtime reporting and Maximo submissions.
  • Manage workload effectively and resolve routine operational issues within the scope of the role.

Maintain Continuous Improvement & Workplace Standards

  • Actively participate in Continuous Improvement initiatives focused on waste reduction, yield enhancement, performance improvement, and operational excellence.
  • Champion small-scale Kaizen activities and actively contribute to Autonomous Maintenance programmes.
  • Maintain workplace organisation and cleanliness through effective application of 5S principles.
  • Ensure stock levels, GMP standards, and workplace management processes are maintained within the assigned manufacturing area.
  • Support a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and operational excellence.

Collaborate Across Teams

  • Work collaboratively with Cell Leads, Shift Managers, Engineering, Quality, and Operations colleagues.
  • Support effective communication during shift handovers to ensure continuity of operations.
  • Escalate production, quality, equipment, or safety issues appropriately to support timely resolution.
  • Contribute positively to team performance while supporting colleagues involved in expansion training activities.

Ensure Compliance, Quality & Safety

  • Maintain a strong understanding of GMP requirements and manufacturing documentation standards.
  • Complete all required production documentation accurately, legibly, and in a timely manner.
  • Raise Document Change Requests (DCRs) for batch record and procedural updates where required to maintain operational and regulatory compliance.
  • Comply fully with company Health, Safety & Environmental (HS&E) policies and site procedures.
  • Ensure machinery and equipment are maintained in a safe, clean, and orderly condition.
  • Understand and comply with all operational security requirements.
  • Maintain work areas to the highest standards of cleanliness, safety, and compliance.

What you bring

Education

Minimum Required

  • Minimum of 4 GCSEs at Grade C/4 or above, including Mathematics and English (or equivalent).

Preferred

  • A-Level qualification or above (or equivalent).

Experience

Minimum Required

  • Experience working in a GMP-regulated environment.
  • Experience cleaning, servicing, or supporting production equipment.

Preferred

  • Experience with process equipment maintenance.
  • Experience within the pharmaceutical manufacturing industry.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Knowledge of GMP, 5S, Kaizen, workplace management, and Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) principles.
  • Strong focus on quality, compliance, and operational excellence.
  • Results-oriented approach with a proactive attitude toward achieving objectives.
  • Good time management and organisational skills.
  • Positive attitude and willingness to embrace change and continuous improvement.
  • Understanding of regulatory, quality, and business compliance requirements.
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to work across different organisational levels.
  • Strong problem-solving and teamwork capabilities.

Working Conditions

  • Exposure to hot and humid manufacturing environments.
  • Exposure to cleaning chemicals and active pharmaceutical ingredients requiring the use of appropriate PPE and RPE.
  • Frequent manual handling activities.
  • Regular stripping, cleaning, reassembly, and movement of manufacturing equipment and components.
  • Shift-based manufacturing operations as required by business needs.

Fixed-Term Project Nature of the Role

This position is wholly and exclusively connected to the Manufacturing Expansion Training Workstream.

  • The role has been created solely to support continuity of routine manufacturing operations during the Manufacturing Expansion Training Workstream and is not intended to become a permanent position.
  • The role scope is limited to designated legacy manufacturing processes and activities required to maintain production output throughout the transition period.
  • The post-holder will not be trained, assessed, qualified, authorised, deployed, or scheduled to work on the new ADHD bead manufacturing unit or any expansion asset.
  • The contract will terminate upon completion of the Manufacturing Expansion Training Workstream. Completion of the workstream constitutes the specific project event upon which the fixed-term employment will end in accordance with the terms of employment.
