About The Role

Role Purpose

This role is responsible for maximising the value created by a multidisciplinary squad, serving as the bridge between business priorities, customer needs, and the teams that design and deliver learning solutions. The Product Owner owns the backlog, prioritises delivery, and drives the continuous evolution of solutions while balancing strategic objectives, learner experience, quality, and measurable outcomes.

The role owns the vision for its area of responsibility and creates the clarity the squad needs to perform. Through collaboration, transparency, predictability, and continuous improvement, the Product Owner ensures that capability development initiatives deliver value consistently and sustainably.

This is not a coordination-only role. It is an ownership position for a commercially minded product leader who can translate complex needs into clear choices, align diverse stakeholders, and help the squad deliver learning experiences that improve organisational performance.

Key Accountabilities

  • Define and communicate the vision, objectives, desired outcomes, and priorities for the assigned product area or squad.
  • Connect the learning roadmap to business strategy, operational needs, customer expectations, and organisational capability priorities.
  • Maximise value by making clear trade-offs across business impact, urgency, learner benefit, effort, risk, and available resources.
  • Champion innovation in learning solutions, including digital formats, microlearning, video, gamification, and interactive experiences.
  • Own, refine, and prioritise the capability development backlog, ensuring that work is clear, sequenced, and ready for execution.
  • Translate business needs into well-defined, prioritised, and actionable requirements for the squad.
  • Establish acceptance criteria for content, courses, learning pathways, and other educational deliverables.
  • Maintain a transparent roadmap and backlog that support informed decisions, realistic commitments, and predictable delivery.
  • Lead the squad rhythm and ceremonies, including planning, daily stand-ups, reviews, and retrospectives, promoting alignment, collaboration, accountability, and autonomy.
  • Apply Agile practices such as Scrum and Kanban to manage demand, remove blockers, improve flow, and strengthen delivery discipline.
  • Partner closely with subject matter experts, instructional designers, multimedia producers, and other specialists to turn priorities into high-quality learning products.
  • Foster a culture of experimentation, feedback, shared ownership, and continuous improvement.
  • Plan and monitor training projects from discovery through launch, ensuring delivery within agreed timelines and quality standards.
  • Align learning strategy, instructional approach, operational requirements, and user experience throughout the delivery lifecycle.
  • Validate outputs against agreed acceptance criteria and ensure that quality issues are resolved before release.
  • Balance speed and quality to deliver sustainable solutions that can be maintained, scaled, and improved over time.
  • Define and track learning and delivery KPIs that demonstrate adoption, effectiveness, learner experience, operational impact, and squad performance.
  • Use data, user feedback, and business outcomes to evaluate training performance and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Turn insights into backlog decisions, product enhancements, and clear recommendations for stakeholders.
  • Promote evidence-based decision-making and a test-and-learn approach across the learning portfolio.
  • Build trusted relationships with business leaders, customers, functional partners, and delivery teams.
  • Align expectations, communicate priorities and delivery status, and make dependencies, risks, and decisions visible.
  • Facilitate productive conversations when priorities compete, using business value and evidence to guide trade-offs.
  • Influence without relying on formal authority and maintain alignment across a diverse stakeholder network.
