POSITION DESCRIPTION — ELECTRICAL SWITCHBOARD ESTIMATOR

Position: Electrical Switchboard Estimator

Department: Sales/Estimating

Reports To: Managing Director

Location: Remote (Philippines)

Employment Type: Full-time

POSITION PURPOSE

  • The Electrical Switchboard Estimator supports RMS Manufacturing in preparing accurate quotations for
  • electrical switchboards and panels.
  • The position requires a high level of attention to detail, disciplined document management, clear
  • communication and the ability to follow RMS Manufacturing processes and instructions accurately.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Estimating

  • Review RFQs, drawings, specifications, schedules and scope of works.
  • Interpret single-line diagrams, electrical drawings and client specifications.
  • Undertake material, labour and component take-offs.
  • Assist with general arrangement concepts required for quotation.
  • Select appropriate switchgear, controlgear and associated components.
  • Prepare estimates and quotations using RMS systems and processes.
  • Identify exclusions, assumptions, discrepancies and missing information.
  • Escalate technical or commercial issues before making assumptions.
  • Assist with quotation revisions, variations and updated pricing.

Technical Development

  • Develop knowledge of electrical switchboards, switchgear and controlgear.
  • Develop working knowledge of IEC/AS/NZS 61439 requirements.
  • Improve ability to interpret complex electrical drawings and specifications.
  • Develop an understanding of RMS manufacturing methods, materials, labour requirements and

costing methodology.

  • Progressively take responsibility for more complex estimates as competency develops.

Systems & Administration

  • Accurately enter and maintain estimating information within Simpro.
  • Maintain complete and orderly estimating files and supporting documentation.
  • Ensure quotations, drawings, specifications, supplier pricing and correspondence are stored

correctly.

  • Follow RMS estimating procedures, templates and approval processes.
  • Maintain accurate records of assumptions, exclusions and outstanding information.

Communication

  • Communicate professionally with the Australian RMS Manufacturing team
  • Respond to requests and instructions within agreed timeframes.
  • Ask questions when requirements are unclear rather than making assumptions.
  • Escalate issues that may affect quotation accuracy, scope, cost or delivery.

Estimating Accuracy

  • Accuracy of material, labour and component selections.
  • Minimal errors and reworks.
  • Estimates appropriately checked before submission.

Quote Turnaround

  • Estimates completed within agreed deadlines.
  • Priorities communicated where deadlines cannot be achieved.

First-Time-Right

  • Estimates are substantially complete when submitted for review.
  • Correct drawings, specifications and pricing are used.

Technical Capability

  • Continued improvement in drawing interpretation and switchboard knowledge.
  • Increasing understanding of relevant standards and RMS products.
  • Progressive ability to complete estimates with less supervision.

Communication

  • Clear, timely and professional communication.
  • Questions and issues raised early.
  • Instructions understood and actioned correctly.

Document Control

  • Estimating documentation is complete, accurate and filed correctly.
  • Information can be readily located by other RMS employees.

Productivity

  • Increasing estimating output as competency develops without compromising accuracy.

REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

Essential

  • Strong ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and single-line diagrams.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to follow processes and instructions accurately.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment.
  • Willingness and ability to learn electrical switchboard estimating.

Desirable

  • Electrical engineering or electrical trade background.
  • Previous experience in electrical estimating.
  • Previous switchboard or electrical panel experience.
  • Knowledge of IEC/AS/NZS 61439.
  • Experience with Simpro.
  • Experience with CAD or electrical drafting software.
