Work Schedule
Onsite – Torrance, CA Our team in Military Aircraft Group is looking for an experienced Hone Machine Operator on 2nd shift (2:00pm-10:30pm) to join them. You will report to our Performance Leader and will have an on-site work schedule at our aerospace plant in Torrance, CA.

The Hone Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining honing equipment used to achieve precise dimensional tolerances, surface finishes, and geometric specifications on aerospace components. This role ensures all parts meet engineering, customer, FAA, and aerospace quality standards while adhering to safety and manufacturing requirements.
To be considered for the role, here’s what you’ll need to bring with you
- High School diploma or GED preferred. Otherwise, demonstrated ability to understand and apply all verbal, written and computer work instructions or training in English, and demonstrated ability to perform simple addition, subtraction, multiplication and division
- Minimum 3 years or more experience with setting up and operating honing machines
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings
- Understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)
- Experience using precision measuring instruments
- Knowledge of aerospace manufacturing standards and quality requirements
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Preferred Qualifications
- Aerospace machining experience
- AS9100 manufacturing environment experience
- Experience with Sunnen or similar honing equipment
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles
- CNC honing experience

Work Environment
- Aerospace manufacturing/machine shop setting
- Use of required personal protective equipment (PPE)
- May require overtime and weekend work to meet production demands
In this role, you will
- Set up and operate horizontal and vertical honing machines.
- Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, specifications, and work instructions.
- Hone precision aerospace components to required tolerances and surface finish specifications.
- Select and install appropriate honing stones, tooling, fixtures, and abrasives.
- Measure and inspect finished parts using precision measuring instruments, including:
- Bore gauges
- Micrometers
- Calipers
- Dial indicators
- Air gauges
- Demonstrated experience holding to a tolerance of .0001.
- Verify conformance to customer and aerospace quality requirements.
- Perform in-process inspections and document results accurately.
- Adjust machine settings to maintain dimensional accuracy and process capability.
- Identify and report nonconforming materials or quality issues.
- Perform routine machine maintenance and housekeeping activities.
- Follow all company safety procedures and AS9100 quality system requirements.
- Work collaboratively with machinists, quality inspectors, engineers, and production personnel to meet delivery schedules.
- Positively contribute to the teamwork environment in terms of productivity, cooperation, data collection, and attitude
- Work on a wide variety of parts with diverse configurations and complexity, building broad machining experience.
- Operate equipment outside your area of expertise, as necessary, although you're not required to be an "expert" in all machine families (lathes, mills, grinders, etc.).

Salary Range Transparency
Torrance, CA $30.00–$40.00 Hourly

Actual salaries will vary depending on factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range(s) listed is just one component of Moog's total compensation package for employees.
