PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

The purpose of the Sports Information Officer position is to coordinate the sport information and communications requirements for Athletics as required by Ontario University Athletics (OUA), U SPORTS and adjacent leagues. The incumbent communicates using a variety of tools including the Windsor Lancers website, statistical platforms, webcast, social media, newsletters, print and more.

Primary working hours for the role include Friday nights, Saturday’s day and night, and Sunday days.

Work is inconsistent and assigned by the Lancer home game schedule.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

The candidate will possess

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications or Sport Management (with communications work), or a College Diploma in a related field with three to five years of experience
  • Two years of experience in the Sports Information Field (University, College or PSO/NSO)
  • Detailed understanding of multiple statistical software platforms (statcrew, presto stats, leaguestats)
  • Experience and understanding with OUA webcast platform Visaic, as well as all OUA webcast standards
  • Full understanding of multiple web content management systems (AIMS, Sidearm, Presto, MyAdBox, Drupel, etc)
  • Knowledge of the rules and regulations for all sports the Lancers participate (Example: need knowledge of FIBA basketball rules, FIVA volleyball rules)
  • Experience working with social media channels (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, etc.)
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse group of people and to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Experience working with competitive athletes and coaches.
  • Basic graphic design skills including knowledge of Adobe software (Photoshop and InDesign)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite of products (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Ability to work a very flexible and inconsistent schedule as required, primary work is during weeknights and weekends (work is based on Lancer home game schedule).
