About The Role

Does leading a squad, shaping technical direction, and setting the standard for how AI shows up in engineering work inspire you?

At Re-Leased, we’re levelling up real estate and helping property professionals thrive in a digital-first world. Our cloud-based property management platform combines smart automation, AI-driven insights, and deep industry expertise to make everyday work simpler and more rewarding. We’re here to help property people run better businesses, build stronger communities, and love what they do.

Your Role

We're looking for our next Technical Lead to be based in Napier or work remotely from another city in New Zealand. As Technical Lead, you'll provide day-to-day technical leadership for your squad: designing, developing, and deploying complex software to the highest level of quality, while working closely with your Engineering Manager and Product Manager to make sure the squad's work is planned accurately, technical direction is clear, and delivery happens efficiently and safely.

What you'll be owning

Architect services and systems using well-accepted design patterns that allow for iterative, autonomous development and future scaling

Lead team-level implementation planning, working with AI to clarify intent, scope and patterns across initiatives, and make sure plans are reviewed before execution

Partner with your Engineering Manager and Product Manager so squad work is planned accurately, broken down clearly, and delivered efficiently

Anticipate and communicate blockers, delays and cost overruns before they need escalating, and take ownership of the decisions made within your squad, backing them and being accountable for their success

Write, generate and maintain high-quality code across complex, distributed systems

Lead code review practices within your squad and drive the standards for how the team uses AI, establishing the patterns, context and memory practices that make it genuinely effective

Drive monitoring and observability work based on our monitoring philosophy, using operational data to guide stability and performance improvements

Provide support diagnosing and resolving complex production issues, and make sure contingency plans (including possible misuse of a feature) are in place before an initiative reaches production

Mentor engineers in your squad, and others as needed, through code review, pairing and knowledge-sharing, and look for opportunities to build redundancy and depth within the team

Represent your squad in technical leadership conversations with other Technical Leads, keeping Engineering aligned as a whole

What you'll bring

7+ years of software engineering experience, or a relevant tertiary qualification (degree level or higher) or Microsoft Certification alongside strong experience

Proven experience leading the technical direction of a team or squad

Strong grounding in software engineering practices and architectural patterns (SOLID, YAGNI and similar), with the ability to write clean, performant code and review others' work effectively

Experience developing solutions for Cloud/SaaS web environments, ideally with the Microsoft Azure platform

Experience with front-end frameworks such as Vue.js, React or Angular, and skills across modern JavaScript, HTML5 and CSS3

Experience planning and implementing CI/CD pipelines for automated builds and deployment

A security-first mindset, applied consistently to your own work and the work you review

Hands-on experience leading how a team adopts AI-assisted development, not just using it yourself: coaching others, setting standards for AI-assisted code review, and capturing what's working (and what isn't) as shared team learnings

Strong leadership, communication and facilitation skills, including with non-technical stakeholders, and a track record of building relationships across engineering

Our stack & how we work

We're a Microsoft Azure shop, and AI is woven through how we work, not bolted on. As Technical Lead, you set the tone: leading team-level implementation planning with AI in the loop, driving the standards for how your squad uses AI in code review, and building the patterns and shared learnings that keep agentic coding reliable while engineering quality stays high.

Our squads manage their own DevOps practices, using Terraform to manage IaC and Azure DevOps for code deployments. Experience with either, or a track record of technical leadership in a similar stack, is a bonus, so make sure to call it out in your application.

Why you’ll love working here
