The Senior Buyer is intended to support JMA in its strategic and tactical goals within the supply chain. Supporting internal and external business partners functionally drive the business towards its strategic agenda and tactical execution. Responsible for reviewing drawings, quoting, cost savings, identifying suppliers, negotiating costs and terms, overseeing and maintaining proper inventory levels and material delivery to support production requirements on time. Research, analyze, and forecast current and future buying trends utilizing SAP. Accurately maintain system data. Develop and maintain relationships with responsible vendor base. Assess financial risks of purchases. Reduce cost of material and operations within the supply chain with a strong focus on suppliers and supporting the business to meet goals and measure KPI’s.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Review of MRP data for requirements
  • Work cross functionally on FAI’s
  • Assist in managing supplier scorecards and lead business reviews
  • Work cross functionally to improve supplier relationships and performance
  • Manage project load with engineering and other cross functional teams
  • Create requisitions when needed and convert them into purchase orders
  • Confirm dates with vendor base
  • Update SAP information based on confirmations and / or changes
  • Manage vendor relationships
  • Review exception messages and react accordingly
  • Report on and react to material shortages proactively where possible
  • Negotiate costs and terms and conditions
  • Manage lead times in SAP
  • Manage approved vendor lists and identify suppliers
  • Inventory analytics to improve turns and optimize stocking quantities
  • Safety stock reviews
  • Reduce shipping spending by optimizing shipments from vendors
  • Work cross functionally with planning, quality, sourcing, and manufacturing
  • Communicating material issues and challenges
  • Identify key secondary source requirements for critical components and execute with sourcing
  • Material master data management
  • Keep lead times and pricing up to date
  • Help to manage cutovers to new material or REVs
  • Review engineering drawings
  • Business reviews and updates on forecast with the vendor base
  • Identify redundancies and risks in the supply chain
  • Manage expedites and costs
  • Assist and advise on shortages

Position Requirements

  • BS degree preferred (Technical or Supply Chain preferred)
  • 5+ years of Supply Chain experience, including buying, for a manufacturing organization in an ERP/MRP environment
  • Experienced in both the strategic and tactical side of procurement
  • Knowledge in cost analytics and contracts (review, negotiation, terms & conditions)
  • Exceptional computer skills and SAP experience desired
  • High degree of initiative and attention to detail in a diverse and highly multi-task environment
  • Excellent follow up
  • Strong interpersonal skills
