Job Summary
Independently plans and conducts a variety of recreational activities in support of a planned recreation program; and/or assists higher level staff in implementing a planned recreational program; and performs other related duties as required.
Examples of Duties

- Plans for a variety of recreational activities in support of a planned recreation program;
- Develops plans in consultation with supervisors;
- Teaches, officiates, and/or instructs a variety of recreational specialties including the cultural, athletic, or leisure activities;
- Recruits participants and volunteers;
- Assists in the planning and presentation of county-wide recreational programs;
- Prepares fields and facilities for recreational activities and sporting events;
- Prepares groups for competitive activities;
- Schedules community use of recreational park, playground, and facility;
- Provides information about programs and events;
- May assist or provide information on how to reserve recreational facilities;
- Attends staff meetings;
- May supervise others;
- Performs other clerical and custodial tasks; and
- Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Training and Experience
A combination of education and experience substantially equivalent to graduation from high school; and
- one (1) year of general work experience; and
- one (1) year of specialized work experience.
Qualifying General Work Experience
Any work experience which may involve the basic skills: reading, writing, computation and communication.
Qualifying Specialized Work Experience
Work experience in organizing, conducting and/or instructing recreational or group activities.
License Requirement
Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator’s license, as required (Hawai‘i Type 3 or equivalent); and possession of valid certifications prior to completion of probation:
- American Red Cross Community First Aid and Safety Certificate or equivalent; and
- Either an American Red Cross Community CPR Certificate, certificate of completion of the American Heart Association Health Care Provider course or equivalent.
