The Mechanical & Rotating QC Inspector

The Mechanical & Rotating QC Inspector is responsible for monitoring, supervising, and controlling all Quality Control activities related to mechanical static and rotating equipment within the AGUP2 Project – CPF2 Package. He ensures that all contractual, technical, and quality requirements are properly implemented by the Contractor and Subcontractors during Construction, Pre-commissioning, and Commissioning phases. The position reports directly to the CPF2 Site QC Superintendent and works closely with Construction, Commissioning, QC disciplines, Vendors, and Contractor/Subcontractor teams .

MAIN MISSIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES

Daily Inspection & Reporting

• Monitor and record all rotating equipment activities on a daily basis.
• Conduct routine inspections in construction areas, equipment installation zones, and pre-commissioning areas.
• Perform specific inspections on rotating machinery and associated installation activities.
• Provide daily update and weekly reporting directly to the CPF2 Site QC Superintendent, covering:
• Inspection progress and key findings
• Non-conformities and recurring defects
• Critical issues requiring escalation or arbitration
• Status of corrective actions
• Quality trends and contractor performance indicators
• Contribute actively to daily/weekly QC coordination meetings and ensure the QC Superintendent receives all relevant data for consolidated site reporting.
• Maintain up-to-date records, ITP follow-up, NCR/CAR tracking, and Mechanical Completion documentation enabling full visibility for the QC Superintendent.

Rotating Equipment Installation & Inspection

Inspect rotating equipment such as

• Pumps (centrifugal, reciprocating, screw)
• Compressors (reciprocating, centrifugal)
• Turbines
• Electric motors
• Blowers and fans
• Verify foundations, grout, anchor bolts, leveling, and mounting conditions for rotating equipment.
• Check alignment (cold/hot), coupling installation, run-out, and shaft rotation.
• Verify lubrication systems, mechanical seals, and auxiliary systems.
• Review and validate inspection reports, punch lists, and test results (vibration, performance, run-in).
• Ensure compliance with vendor documentation, project specifications, and industry standards.

Pre-Commissioning & Commissioning

Witness and verify rotating equipment pre-commissioning activities

• Oil flushing
• Lubrication system checks
• Motor solo-run
• Direction of rotation
• Alignment verification

Participate in commissioning tests

• Vibration analysis
• Performance testing
• Functional checks
• Ensure all rotating equipment is ready for handover to Commissioning.

Documentation & Compliance

• Review and comment on Contractors' and Suppliers' ITPs, Method Statements, and procedures.
• Ensure proper implementation of approved drawings, QC plans, surveillance plans, and ITPs.
• Verify vendor documentation, equipment certification files, and material certificates.
• Issue Quality Records, NCRs, and CARs when required.
• Ensure proper traceability of inspections, tests, and mechanical completion documentation.

Welding, NDT & Interfaces

(Only where rotating equipment interfaces with piping or structural supports)

• Coordinate with QC Welding, NDT, Piping, and Structural teams for interface inspections.
• Verify NDT results related to rotating equipment supports, baseplates, and connected piping.
• Ensure correct implementation of flange alignment and piping connection tolerances.

Non-Conformities & Corrective Actions

• Identify and report non-conformities or deviations in a timely manner.
• Ensure corrective actions are implemented and verified.
• Immediately escalate critical anomalies to the QC Superintendent.

Coordination & Interface

• Participate in daily/weekly construction and QC coordination meetings.
• Interface with Construction, Commissioning, Engineering, Vendors, and Contractor QC teams.
• Support technical clarifications and design queries with Engineering when required.
• Participate in audits (Construction, HSE, QC) and site visits.
• Ensure confidentiality of all documentation under responsibility.

The Mechanical & Rotating QC Inspector covers the following equipment categories

Rotating Equipment

• Centrifugal pumps
• Reciprocating pumps
• Screw pumps
• Centrifugal compressors
• Reciprocating compressors
• Gas/steam turbines
• Electric motors
• Blowers and fans
• Mechanical packages containing rotating components

Associated Systems

• Alignment systems (laser, dial indicator)
• Lubrication systems
• Mechanical seals
• Couplings
• Vibration monitoring systems
• Auxiliary systems (cooling, sealing, lubrication)

Professional Experience

• Minimum 10 years of experience in Mechanical & Rotating QC on major Oil & Gas EPC projects.
• Strong experience with rotating equipment installation, alignment, and commissioning.
• Experience on CPF, refinery, or large industrial facilities is strongly preferred.
• Demonstrated ability in resource planning, decision-making, and team coordination.

Technical Competencies

• Solid knowledge of rotating equipment ( pumps, compressors, turbines, motors, fans ).
• Strong understanding of mechanical installation requirements ( alignment, foundations, couplings ).
• Ability to interpret standards, codes, specifications, and technical drawings.
• Proficiency with measuring instruments ( micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, laser alignment tools ).
• Knowledge of vibration analysis and performance testing.
• Understanding of NCR, deviation, and concession processes.
• Familiarity with digital QC systems ( Aconex, SharePoint, SmartPlant, or equivalent ) is a plus.
