Global Indirect Tax Manager

About The Role
As a Global Indirect Tax Manager, you will be joining a growing global SaaS company where tax is a strategic business partner. You will lead the day-to-day execution of Achievers’ global indirect tax program, overseeing compliance, audits, tax technology, and providing indirect tax guidance on new products, commercial initiatives, and international expansion. You will partner closely with Sales, Legal, Finance, Product, Customer Success, IT, and external advisors to provide practical tax guidance that supports business objectives.
You will provide day-to-day guidance and technical direction to the Indirect Tax Analyst, helping set priorities, coordinate workload, and ensure high-quality execution of global indirect tax activities. You will work closely with the Senior Manager, Indirect Tax and Corporate Accounting, who provides strategic direction, supports complex tax matters, and performs final review of key tax positions and deliverables.
This role is ideal for an indirect tax professional with strong Canadian and/or U.S. experience who is ready to broaden their international exposure, work in a fast-paced and evolving environment, and help shape the tax processes and technology supporting a growing global SaaS business.
This hybrid position is based at our Toronto headquarters, with an expectation of working in the office two days per week.
How you'll shape the Global Tax program at Achievers
Global Indirect Tax Compliance
- Lead Achievers' global indirect tax compliance program, ensuring accurate and timely filing and remittance across Canada, U.S., U.K., Australia, Colombia, and additional jurisdictions as we grow.
- Set priorities, coordinate workload, and provide ongoing technical guidance and quality review for the Indirect Tax Analyst.
- Manage indirect tax audits and tax authority inquiries from initial response through resolution.
- Oversee selected additional tax and regulatory reporting requirements, including U.S. Form 1099 reporting.
- Monitor legislative and regulatory developments, perform initial technical analysis, and identify when jurisdiction-specific advice may be required.
- Assess and provide clear, practical guidance on the indirect tax implications of new products, customer contracts, and geographic expansion, translating tax requirements into business-focused recommendations and escalating complex matters for further review and external guidance.
- Identify opportunities to improve compliance, reduce risk, and minimize tax leakage.
Technology, Process Improvement & Analytics
- Contribute to the ongoing optimization of Avalara, ERP integrations, and other technology solutions to improve scalability, efficiency, and compliance.
- Identify and implement process improvements that enhance efficiency, strengthen controls, and improve reporting accuracy.
- Partner with IT on system implementations, enhancements, and tax automation initiatives.
- Leverage data and analytics to monitor compliance, identify trends, and provide actionable business insights.
Business Partnership
- Partner with Sales, Legal, Finance, Product, Customer Success, and IT to provide practical tax guidance that supports business objectives.
- Respond quickly to customer-facing tax questions throughout the sales process, including RFPs, contracting, and implementation, and provide timely responses to vendors during onboarding and implementation.
- Collaborate with external tax advisors across multiple jurisdictions on technical matters, applying their guidance to support compliance activities and business initiatives while escalating complex issues as appropriate.
Experience we feel will set you up for success
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, or a related field.
- 5+ years of progressive indirect tax experience in Canada and/or the U.S., including experience managing complex indirect tax matters.
- Strong working knowledge of Canadian GST/HST and/or U.S. sales and use tax.
- Strong tax research, analytical, Excel, and stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- CPA designation, accounting designation, or equivalent preferred.
- Experience with Avalara or another sales tax automation platform.
- Exposure to VAT/GST regimes outside North America.
- Experience reviewing customer and vendor contracts for indirect tax implications.

- Continuous improvement of tax processes and technology, with effective collaboration and support for the Indirect Tax Analyst.
