Temporary Game Producer, Scripps Sports

We are seeking a highly skilled and passionate Temporary Game Producer to oversee the entire live production process for sports events and game telecasts. This role is responsible for leading production teams, driving editorial vision, coordinating logistics, and ensuring exceptional broadcast quality from concept through execution.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Oversee the entire live production of sports events and game telecasts from concept to execution.
  • Develop and implement strategic content plans for sports broadcasts and programming.
  • Manage a team of producers, editors, graphics operators, field producers, and other production staff.
  • Make high-level editorial decisions and approve final content.
  • Coordinate with network executives, sponsors, and key stakeholders.
  • Collaborate closely with directors, on-air talent, and production teams to develop game rundowns, camera shots, graphics packages, replays, and overall coverage.
  • Communicate effectively with control room personnel, engineering teams, and other operational departments to ensure seamless broadcasts.
  • Innovate and introduce new concepts, segments, storytelling approaches, and production techniques.
  • Oversee production quality standards and ensure compliance with company policies, network standards, brand guidelines, and FCC regulations.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical or production issues during live broadcasts.
  • Partner with production managers to coordinate scheduling, staffing, equipment, and event logistics.
  • Stay informed on sports news, league rules, industry trends, and audience preferences to enhance broadcast content.
  • Provide creative direction and oversight on the overall presentation and viewer experience.
  • Serve as a production lead and mentor to junior team members.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

  • Bachelor's degree in Broadcast Journalism, Communications, Media Production, or a related field preferred; equivalent combination of education and experience considered.
  • Typically 8+ years of experience in live sports production, television production, or a related field preferred.
  • Previous experience producing live sports broadcasts and managing production teams strongly preferred.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING

  • Strong leadership and team management skills with the ability to lead production crews in a live broadcast environment.
  • Excellent editorial judgment, storytelling ability, and understanding of sports strategy and analytics.
  • Advanced knowledge of live sports production workflows, equipment, technology, and control room operations.
  • Exceptional communication, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and effective under deadline pressure and during live events.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Creative mindset with a passion for producing compelling sports content.
  • Demonstrated ability to innovate and improve production quality and viewer engagement.
  • Willingness to work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended hours based on event schedules.
