About The Role

We are seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to join a growing investment and development firm specializing in retail, industrial, and mixed-use real estate assets. The company operates across the full real estate lifecycle, including acquisitions, development, construction, asset management, and disposition.

Reporting directly to the Director of Finance, the Accounting Manager will oversee accounting operations across multiple legal entities, including construction, development, and operating companies. This role will lead a team of three Staff Accountants responsible for entity-level accounting functions while ensuring accurate financial reporting, timely month-end close, and tax-ready financial statements.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on accounting professional with strong technical accounting skills, construction and real estate experience, and the ability to build scalable processes within a growing organization. This position will play a critical role in maintaining general ledger integrity, overseeing job cost accounting, supporting consolidated reporting, and preparing financial information for external tax and audit partners.

Construction & Development Accounting

  • Oversee construction accounting operations, including job cost accounting, project financial reporting, and construction-related transactions.
  • Ensure proper cost coding, subcontractor accounting, purchase order compliance, and project ledger accuracy.
  • Review and analyze Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules, project profitability, and cost-to-complete reporting.
  • Review owner billings, subcontractor payables, retainage balances, lien waivers, and related construction documentation.
  • Monitor project performance against budgets and provide variance analysis to management.
  • Ensure accurate accounting for development activities, including acquisition costs, project expenditures, capitalization, and asset transfers.

Multi-Entity Accounting & Financial Reporting

  • Manage and oversee full-cycle accounting for assigned operating and investment entities.
  • Ensure accurate recording of revenue, expenses, assets, liabilities, and equity transactions.
  • Review monthly financial statements, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
  • Perform detailed general ledger analysis to ensure completeness and accuracy of financial reporting.
  • Oversee cash management activities, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and bank reconciliations.
  • Maintain fixed asset schedules, depreciation records, and supporting documentation.
  • Assist with consolidated reporting, including intercompany reconciliations and eliminations.

Month-End Close & Tax Readiness

  • Lead and coordinate monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes across multiple entities.
  • Ensure financial statements and supporting schedules are prepared accurately and timely.
  • Review balance sheet reconciliations and investigate unusual account activity.
  • Prepare financial information, supporting schedules, and documentation necessary for external tax preparation.
  • Coordinate with external tax advisors, auditors, and other professional service providers to support compliance requirements.
  • Assist with year-end financial reporting and tax package preparation.

Systems & Process Improvement

  • Support optimization of accounting systems
  • Identify opportunities to automate processes, improve reporting capabilities, and strengthen internal controls.
  • Develop and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and documentation.
  • Partner with finance, construction, development, and asset management teams to improve financial processes.
  • Assist in implementing scalable accounting practices to support continued company growth.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within construction, real estate development, investment, or other multi-entity environments.
  • Experience managing or supervising accounting staff.
  • Strong understanding of construction accounting, job costing, and project financial reporting.
  • Experience managing accounting functions across multiple legal entities.
  • Strong knowledge of month-end close procedures, financial statement preparation, and general ledger accounting.
  • Experience preparing financial reporting packages and supporting documentation for external tax providers.
  • Understanding of real estate accounting concepts, including development costs, capitalization, asset management, and investment structures.
  • Experience with Sage Intacct and Ramp procurement platform preferred.
  • Advanced Excel skills with the ability to analyze financial data and build reporting tools.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate across accounting, construction, development, and executive teams.
